Bricked i900 on very first ROM flash.

After reading various threads on this forum for over a week and downloading/installing all relevant files, I took a very deep breath and decided to flash my ROM last night. Now I wish I hadn't.......

I followed these steps provided by shokka9: http://www.samsung-omnia.org/rom-discussio...-rom-(xp-only)/

My original ROM was MSHG1, I decided to update to a qbus DXID1 ROM. I began by Hard Resetting my Omnia then proceeded to connect the phone to my xp pc using ActiveSync. AS found my phone, I then loaded the updater QB07-ID1.exe. Following a soft reset, the start button was now visible. I clicked the start button, I then got ''Downloading EBOOT'' followed by ''EBOOT image downloaded messages''.

I then got the following message:''PDA Reboot to download EBOOT twice''. Everything then just froze. There was also a message in the blue label area reading:''Waiting for rebooting''. This stayed like this for approx 45-50mins. I am now extremely stressed, I cannot recall if I soft resetted the phone or if I pushed the on/off button. However, the download started again but froze again on around 47%. Again I think I softresetted and three times the blue label went to 100%. I was hoping/praying whatever had caused the earlier problem had now been resolved. However, I then got a ''checksum error'' and the download froze again. I haven't tried to re-flash again, as I'm not sure this would solve anything??

Bearing in mind there a people on this forum who have flashed there ROMs lots of times without problems, I feel gutted that I appear to have bricked mine on my very first attempt.

The phone is now dead/bricked. It won't turn on and there are no lights etc...However, on plugging the phone into my mains charger a battery icon appears and also the Samsung Omnia logo screen, I tried to Hard Reset using the 2 end keys but to no avail. I read somewhere that if the phone displays the Omnia logo it isn't necessarily bricked. I don't know if this is correct or not? Can anybody advise on this please?

If and when my Omnia gets repaired I don't think I'll be attempting to flash my ROM ever again, I would prefer to pay someone to do this. Which is a shame really because I was hoping to update my phone on a regular basis and to feel very pleased that I had done this myself instead of feeling like a complete useless prick, which I feel now.

I don't know what caused this as I followed all steps in the above guide. I must have been one of the unlucky ones. If anyone has any advice/help it would be appreciated.

Regards <_<

Same problem with me but when I turn off firewall, restart computer and run the updater-connect the phone-soft reset-hit START button. It worked for me...

Good luck.

Tell you what, as long as the OMnia Logo appears your phone is not bricked!!! make sure you charge your battery for a while and try to do the flashing again!

Thanks for the reply.

I've tried to do this myself. The blue label goes to 100% 3 times but then I get the ''checksum error'' and it freezes again.

In fact on my first attempt, which I didn't state in my first post, I turned Windows firewall and my McAfee Anti Virus off. I don't know what else I could have done.

I so hope you're right. Before the initial attempt at the ROM flash last night, I made sure the phone was 100% charged i.e the green LED was on. Would charging it some more really make a dfifference?

I've tried to re-flash using a khuanchai 4-in-1 21215 ROM. However, again it starts ok, the first blue label went to 100%. The second blue label stuck on 27%. I then get the attached error message. I still have the Omnia logo.

Any advice appreciated.

Sorry I don't have anything helpful to add as my rom flash worked for me. I just wanted to say that I feel for you, bricking the phone was also of the utmost concern for me and I wish you the best of luck in recovering it from it's current state.

I got out of a similar situation with secany dxhk3 rom , link here

http://www.modaco.com/content/i900-general...read-new-dxia2/

scroll down to 11.dec.09 ( typo? ) and try that one...

Hi rigor.m,

Thanks for the ROM link.

I've tried to re-flash again using the secany dxhk3 rom. However, the D/L has failed with a ''checksum error''. Does anyone know what this checksum error is and what causes it?

Any help would be appreciated.

I now don't have the Omnia LOgo on my screen any longer. I now have a picture of a mobile phone and a computer with a yellow & black exclamation mark in the middle of the two pictures. Anyone know what this means? Probably means it is now officially bricked.

I had this too, don't panic. Have you tried to do a hard reset? Hold the left and right hard keys together and with your stylus press the reset button. Then press the left hard key to hard reset.

Thanks for the reply. I did manage to Hard Reset the phone a couple of times earlier today using the method you described but it didn't make any difference.

Thanks anyway.

Not sure if it's already been mentioned but make sure you have NOTHING but your phone plugged into any USB sockets on your PC.

Hope you get it sorted.

Thanks for that laserman123,

When I originally flashed the ROM last night, I must admit that I didn't have all USB sockets unplugged. Following your advice, I've just re-flashed with all USBs unplugged, excdept my laser mouse. However, this didn't make any difference. The D/L still produced a checksum error.

Thanks.

I'm still in the same situation, I've tried to re-flash with a couple of diffrent ROMs but I still keep getting the checksum error which fails the D/L.

I've read a little bit about a program called GrandPrix, does anyone know if this might help me in any way?

I've never used this program so I might need some guidance.

Thanks for all your help and replies.

Since last night I've had my phone plugged into the mains charger. While the battery icon was showing it was just repeatedly showing power going into the battery i.e the five bars were filling up but then they were constantly disappearing and filling up again. To my mind I didn't think the power going into the phone was 'sticking' or staying there, if you see what I mean.

However, I've just looked at my phone and the five bars are constant i.e full up, with the green LED showing. Not sure if this signifies anything, other than a powered up battery, but I would hope a green rather than a red LED is somehow better.

Regards to all.
