I just spoke to a T-Mobile business operator who stated that T-Mobile had CANCELLED the MDA Vario V. Has anyone else heard the same?

However, she did say that the MDA Compact V would be available from tomorrow (10th June).

Well given that the Compact V isn't on their site today, I'd take it with a pinch of salt.

I really hope she's wrong. Mobilephonesdirect have a great price for it, but I'd rather deal directly with the operator if possible...

That's pretty good - what did you have to do to get that price? I'm on a business contract already and am paying 30 a month (well out of contract) but when I was thinking of upgrading a while back was told that since I'm paying virtually nothing over my monthly rate, I'd get virtually nothing off the phone, so the original Diamond would have still cost me ~150-200 to upgrade. I didn't bother going via customer services/retentions so still looking around.

Steve.

I spoke to T-Mobile today who just said that they didn't have them and they weren't in the system.

Got my PAC. Maybe I'll try an upgrade from mobilephonesdirect. I don't fancy Vodafone much. I'll phone about their upgrades, or port to an Orange PAYG then start a new T-Mob contract and port back.

Any idea how long I have to be on Orange PAYG before they'll let me port off it?

I'm toying with the idea of doing the exact same thing, although maybe porting to O2 PAYG - does anyone recommend an operator that's good for allowing you to port out quickly?

T-Mob retentions just called me (I got my PAC on Saturday) and he confirmed that they were only offering the Diamond2 and were not going to offer the TP2.

Just got a call from T-Mobile today as well saying that the Vario V has been removed from their system for unknown reasons and that they do not think it will be going back on :D

I spoke to someone today (they phoned me to ask what it would take to keep me) and she claimed that the Vario V would be out on the 8th July and cost "significantly less" than the IV.

That said, I'm not 100% convinced that she wasn't thinking about the Compact V, but my PAC is valid until the 12th July, so will wait and see.

Someone at T-Mobile must follow Modaco. Please, can we have a definitive answer? Is T-Mobile getting the Touch Pro 2/Vario V or not? If yes, when?

Edited to add: I just had a "live chat" on the T-Mobile site. The agent stated that the Vario V was coming "at the end of summer", but if I needed more detail I should phone.

I just listened to a message left by T-Mobile stating that the COMPACT V would be available on 8th July. No mention of Vario V.

The only tarrif I've seen on Vodafone says unlimited internet but then says they mean 500mb a month. That's half what I currently get :D

I REALLY want this phone, but T-Mobile confirmed to me today when I went into their store that they won't be getting it. They also said the window for them getting new windows mobile phones has now closed and they won't get any new ones until probably January next year. The compact V is there, in their monthy catalogue.

I am looking for the best deal on the Rhodium with unlimited internet now, as I've held one today and it's much nicer than my Vario III ;)

I suppose it depends if you need your full 1GB each month. The only other alternative that I can think of is somewhere like mobilephonesdirect who sell the HTC version of the phone on a Tmobile contract with WnW

Spoke to a guy yesterday, confirmed that T-Mobile UK are not getting the Vario V.

He said he wasn't sure why, but it might have been due to lack of interest (do they CHECK the forums?? :/)

Mobilephonesdirect it is then. Can't be doing with waiting for the Hero.

I ported my number from T-Mobile to O2 PAYG and requested my PAC from O2 about 3 days after the number had ported in. They gave it to me straight away over the phone and a letter also arrived the next day. Already ordered mine with MobilePhonesDirect going back to T-Mobile.

Virgin PAYG is good for this, as it's the same network, so Virgin Sims work on locked TMob handsets, while you are waiting to transfer back.

Hello,

Sadly I have been told by the Upgrades Team today (August 17th 2009) that the Vario V has been "withdrawn from the range" - when asked to explain what this means, he stated the Vario V will not be on T-Mobile UK, and no reasons are given as to why.

Very sad news, it means I'll probably leave T-Mobile after many years . . .

You can upgrade via mobilephonesdirect.com

And you get an unbranded TP2, so no waiting for T-Mobile to issue 6.5 when it arrives!

Do you mind me asking what price they charged you for the upgrade?

My 12 months are up again with T Mobile, i rang them yesterday, they just said they dont have the Touch Pro 2, but they have the Diamond 2. I can see the phone is on Mobilephonesdirect.co.uk my contract is roughly £40 a month, without extra charges, including WNW. What kind of price would i be looking at to upgrade it to another 12 month contract on same terms?

Thanks

I've literally just got off the phone with MPD doing an upgrade on my T-Mobile account. It started off with they needed to know my 'Discount Banding' so I called 150 and after bouncing around the TMob phone system I decided to go straight to retentions for a stright answer. The girl on the phone said they can't disclose that discount to the customer but she can apply it to my account as an offer for 10 days so I can go shopping elsewhere for a phone.

I phoned MPD back and told them this and the chap on the other end handed me over to the sales girl who took my details so she could access my account details and find out what the figure was. TMob applied £250 discount to my account and when taking into consideration my current tariff (Flext 35+WnW Pro, 18month contract) she said the handset would be £100, I asked if changing my tariff would provide a better discount on the handset but TMob would only offer a Combi tariff and none that suited me without making the handset cost higher.

Because I did all this over the phone the MPD people are emailing me my contract for me to sign, scan and send back, she said if I can get this emailed back before the end of Monday (Bank Holiday) they can process it first thing Tuesday and phone should be with me by Wednesday. All in all I weighed up the cost of the handset against the hassle of PAC'ing my number out and back in again plus being lumbered with a combi tariff and £100 isn't bad in my book for a handset like this (especially seeing as it's network unbranded and unlocked).

When I tried this T-Mobile said I had to give my log-in details and password to the dealer which I blew my top at. I insisted that they tell me what my discount was directly seeing as how it was mine. Eventually they said it was £200. In the end I moved to Vodafone at MPD as the phone was free.

It's amazing that mobile phone companies are still willing to lose existing customers rather than give them the same deal as new ones. If T-Mobile had given me the phone free I'd have stayed with them. But it's only free to people new to T-mobile.

Hello Tommy,

Sadly (others may laugh at me paying such an amount), I paid £300, at Mobile Phones Direct.

I got a £200 discount i.e. the T-Mobile Upgrade discount amount; so for a £500 handset, I got £200 knocked off.

The reason for a low discount is I am fortunate to have an employee discount on my WnW, so I only pay half price for my monthly tariff (Flext 35 + WnW - under £20 pcm); so I can fully appreciate why T-Mobile wouldn't exactly fight to keep me on their network as I probably cost them money!
