screw the update and give me the damn omnia II already.
still think everyone should write them a nasty letter though. matter of fact I think tomorrow I'll go make a poor vzw reps life miserable about it for kicks.

In fact, I was in one of the larger VZW stores yesterday speaking with their tech support people (needed a replacement for a broken Omnia holster). I asked him about the long-promised update. He said that he'd also heard rumors a few months ago of an upgrade to unlock the GPS, but nothing since then. So if they are planning to release one, it appears to be a big secret even among their own techs.
I can name one VZW store in Nashville that the techs are almost exclusevily modified and hacked Omnias. I would tell you who turned them onto this and a few other web hangouts, but then I would have to kill myself.

*shrug*
My rom will always trump whatever crap they bring out. Heck, any chef's rom will.
Heck, my 6.1 rom is running a newer version of 6.1 than they will supply with an official update.

omg everyone does not know how to google. so retarted. i got a hold of an omnia rom over a month ago that was an official verizon rom with gps unlocked. grant it this may be a beta rom but it's the first omnia rom that has had absolutely no bugs unlike the saga rom. find it here. http://theidoctor.org/omnia.html
excellent rom and i didn't brick mine because i followed instructions. make sure you flash with a full battery and on a usb 2.0 connection and don't use any usb hubs. if you do any of those stoopid things you will prepare your omnia for the garbage basket. have a good day.

Are you dense ??
Where do you think they got the stuff to cook new roms with. There are huge threads on this same forum about the Beta rom for months.
Can you google?? Funny to see someone use the word retarded but spell it wrong.
As for no interest if they do release a new ROM, you guys must be kidding right ? while there is a patch to sort or fix the GPS locking, it still is sub par for any other phone I have played with in getting a lock. There are a number of other minor nits and such that could be fixed.
I'm sure it would not take you long to re-base your cooked roms on the new one even if you have a ton of code coming from other sources.

You blast someone for googling, yet if your googled the Saga release, you would see the GPS is equally crappy, and they use the same one we do. Difference? They have an official release.
If you Google further, you would see that several of the CC20 problems are in the Saga release.

Where is the official release from Verizon that promises it be released by the end of the first half of 2009?

Official release would mean we could take any damaged phone in for service. It's also the principal of the thing. They said they would release it and lied. Also the fact that it shouldn't be locked in the first place.
If everyone just lays down and says *oh well we have it unlocked anyway,* how much more do you think Verizon will walk all over the customer. They read this forum. I'm sure they read about more bugs here than any they tested on their own. It's really win/win for them at this point. The normal user still pays for VZ Nav, and the power users do their beta testing.

But see, you are preaching to the wrong people.
Official keeps you under the warranty umbrella, sure.
But this forum focuses on cooked roms. Now the point is moot.
The reason why I said there is nothing to be excited about is because there is unlikely to be a big difference from cc20. The bugs we see now, are likely to be there is an official release.
The same normal user that pays for vznav now, will probably still pay for vznav later.
vznav affords users something the unlocked GPS alone does not--some semblance of reliability. Unlocked standalone GPS on a phone, any phone really, is a toy, and sometimes worthy tool.
As for VZW lying--one person is not a spokesperson for an entire company. Indeed, it was also a target date. Targets are not always accurate.

More than likely, their update to the ROM will be released when the Omnia is so obsolete that no one will be using it.
