Hi all,

Sorry if this has been addressed but I did a search and did not find anything so here I am asking. I recently purchased the Samsung Jack i637 and was noticing in the Samsung forums there is not a forum listed for this phone.

Another question. What app unlocks the registry?

I am trying to turn off MediaNet and I downloaded the nodata.cab from the other forum here but the phone tells me "Error Writing to RegistryKey" when I try to toggle MediaNet off. I tried to find the app to unlock the registry but no luck. The website it was posted on has been shutdown.

Any help on this would be appreciated as I don't really care to pay $30.00 a month for AT&T's data plan.

I'm in the same situation as you .  I haven't found any registry unlocker yet, so I'm starting to think there isn't one yet lol.

I think I got it:

First I did the following to unlock security on the Jack -

   • The first step of removing the security limitations is to download the ClearSecurity file. (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7K4XTY68)
   • Next, connect the Samsung Jack to the computer and move the file to the device through ActiveSync.
   • Install ClearSecurity and launch Microsoft’s Security Configuration Manager. (http://www.microsoft...;displaylang=en)
   • Select Security Off from the drop down menu and click the Provision button, the program will install a file called Tool.
   • Run a registry editor program like Total Commander or Mobile Registry Editor and delete the key ForceCellConnection from: (I skipped this since I didn't want to modify Internet Sharing.)

       HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Comm>InternetSharing>Settings.

Make sure after you are done with the unlock procedure that you uninstall clearsecurity.cab, it will be called "SOTI MobiControl Device Agent" in remove programs.

At this point I found that there were still locks on the factory "connections" like media net.

To get rid of those I ran:

      \Windows\UAMgr

I then installed nodata.cab. It installed fine. After running it and turning everything off I found that I was still using MediaNet. There was a clue though. There is a message indicating that if there is an active connection that it may be necessary to manually turn it off.

To do that I found that I had to go into "Wireless Manager" and toggle the phone connection. Initially it showed to be using "MediaNet" after toggling it showed "on".

That took care of the MediaNet problem. I can now cancel my data plan.

I am new to this stuff, am I reading correctly that this allows data access without the data plan.  I have a jack but don't want to pay for a data plan to access the GPS capabilities.  Thanks

On the Jack you have the option of using wifi to access the internet. If however you are uing wifi and move out of range, or your signal is not strong enough, the Jack will automatically start uing 'MediaNet' without telling you. If you don't have data service then you get a big bill. What this allows is for you to prevent your phone from using 'MediaNet' to access the internet at allm, unless you choose re-enable the service.

Is there a way to restore the Jack to WM6.1.  I hate the upgrade of WM6.5, I can't get my old programs to work on WM6.5.
