Hero on Orange, Contract Deals

I'm about to "upgrade" my phone and get a Hero on orange. Currently im on panther 45 (£40p/m) 1200 minutes, Ulimited txts and browsing.

tbh i only got that level of contract to get my past 3 phones for nothing. Now i really need to reduce my monthly payments but still keep the cost of the phone down.

I only really need 200min, 300 txt and internet.

I also only want a 12 or 18 month contract. I realise 12month contracts are now alot more expensive.

I am staying with orange as their reception is the best here in the centre of glasgow. T-mob is the worst. Ive been with orange for around 8 years.

looking online i see the best deals are;

Dolphin 35: 18 months £30 + £5 internet, 600min, unlimited txt and £97.50 for the phone.

Dolphin 30: 18 months £25 = £5 internet, 400min, unlimited txt and £146.50 for the phone. :D

Racoon 30: 18months £25 + £5 internet, 400min, 300txt and £146.50 for the phone.

so people, whats my chances of getting a lower contract and the phone for nothing/alot cheaper than on their site?

New connections get a better deal - churn out then back in?

Mobiles.co.uk are doing an unlocked hero on dophin 35 for free with 8(or possibly just 6 now) months 1/2 price line rental and a headset if you use the modaco code for new customers. Got one a few weeks ago. Customer service is a little lacking but all sorted in the end.

Are you getting 3G in many places on your Hero with orange? I noticed on mine that it hardly ever went to 3G... even in london :D

Doing that means i'd need to wait till november. Also do orange not give you better discounts for long term users?

That's great, unless you want a hero :D

I'm currently in the same boat (though get a friends/family discount) and working out the cheapest way to get a hero with the shortest contract.

If you have access to friends and family discount the best option by far in my oppinion, would be

order from orange.co.uk

12 month contract

Dolphin 45, 900 mins, 700 texts £29.36 per month (includes discounts)

Phone is free of charge

Sorry, but I left Orange after 9 years, as none of their plans are suitable for always on device and heavy data usage... WHY? Cos' Unlimited is FAR FROM unlimited. Orange gives you only 500MB/month (fair usage rules in the small print)! Where as T-Mobile 3GB...

Orange would not extend my previous (discounted) contract £25 (-£10)/month for 500mins. They wanted extra £35 for phone and £25/month... +£5 internet AND 24 month contract. Spoke to disconnections twice and even with a real threat of leaving, when requesting PAC code, they would not and could not give me a good enough deal.

Where as now with T-Mobile - Free phone, £40/month for 18 months FLEXT 40. For that I get £225 credit towards services such as: Text, calls UK, calls int, roaming, sms, mms, voicemail... internet is free (with 3GB fair usage). Yes the network is not as good, but I have decided to take the plunge and go with them.

Might not be what you wanted to hear, but that's my experience.

How are T-mobile doing nowa days?

I know they are struggling financially and were in talks with 3 with a merger, is this still going on in the background?

Let's see, but to an average user it can be only an advantage to be gobbled up by a larger network. I expect that current contracts would be honoured and as a user you'd benefit from better signal :D

win-win

My Hero only arrive from Orange yesterday after 3 years of the W810i but i thought id post the contract they gave me here.

A long deal doesnt bother me as i dont mind having the same phone for an extended period but i didnt want to pay more than £25 a month for the contract as i only do maybe 200 minutes and 200 texts a month and just wanted the internet option really.

In the end i managed to get the Hero for £48.50, 600 minutes, 550 texts, unlimited landline calls (which i use a lot of) and the 500mb web bundle for £25 a month. over the course of the 2 year contract it works out to about £27 a month which i was very pleased with. This was on the phone direct because the upgrade options were worse than the new customer ones despite the blurb saying "get the same deals as new customers". this ended up being better than the new customer deal as i got 50 extra texts a month as well as saving £50 on the phone.

As you may have guessed im not on the phone all the time so 500mb will be enough for me. I know the contract is longer than you wanted but i thought it only fair to share.

I phoned the upgrade service because the web deals for new customers were better than the upgrade deals that you could get online. When i spoke to the salesperson they said that they couldnt match the offer but they could give me the same contract but at £30 a month with the phone for £50 (£50 less than the upgrade deal online). Since an extra £5 a month over 2 years is £120 and i was only getting a £50 saving on the phone i told them to cancel my account because it was going to cost me £70 and that i would just sort out a new one when this one ended.

Then i asked how to get my number transfered to a new orange contract and was told that it wasnt possible because the transfers only work form one network to another.

Within 2 minutes the same salesperson called back and was offering the deal i got which meant i dont have to get a new contract and that i could get the phone immediately even if i cant use the data part of it until the 10th september.

Thank you for elaborating.

Why do you have to wait until 10th september for your data package to be activated? Not using it with this phone will be difficult, right?

I think because my old contract wasnt supposed to end until September 30th, so while they would end the phone out the new contract couldnt start until Sep 10th.

Its no major issue, i spend the majority of my time at work in front of a computer or at home with wifi. Since i have never had a data connection before i just need to hold out for a couple of weeks.

Its a great phone though, now i need to work out rooting and all the other stuff people talk about on here :D .

Yes, went through to the thinking of leaving orange one. Said I was thinking of leaving because I wanted an Iphone (i didnt) they said isnt there any other phone you would consider etc etc.

Free internet I just said I would need it and o2 offer it with the Iphone.

Didnt really have to try to be honest, though I have been with orange for years.

Now thats the deal i want. What "animal" is the contract?

I'm hoping the fact that i've been with them for so long helps. Bad thing is im trying to upgrade in the 3month period before my contract runs out so cant say i'm instantly walking away. Mind you if i don't get what i want i won't be renewing straight away.

So a wee bump just incase anyone has anything to add to the thread before i call orange this afternoon.

The contract i'm most interesting in is Dolphin 30 (18 month contract £25 + £5 internet, 400min, unlimited txt and £97.50 for the phone). All off their website.

First priority is the get the phone for free. Anyone fancy my chances?

Could be hard as today is the first day of my 3 months to go before the end of my contract. So i can say i'll leave to go elsewhere but not for 3 months.
