Yesterday I got my B7610. I'm of course very anxious to install software. A lot of people in this forum have been using this device for some time now. I was wondering:

- Which apps are your favorite or would you recommend?

- Which navigation software are you using?

- Which apps make best use of the screen size and quality?

Thanks!

There are so many apps that I don't know what could be usefull anymore. I will google all the apps you stated and see which ones I need.

Thanks again and greets RelaxedWarrior

Has anyone tried Manila 2.1 on their Omnia Pro? I really like that user interface (sorry Samsung) although I prefer the hardware specs of Samsung.

I've been looking for a cab of Manila 2.1 WVGA but no luck so far.

I tried one, no luck too, but i use now SPB Mobile Shell, that interface is really, really impressive, almost similar to samsung but far more complete, everythings works but their locking screen, direct access to start menu, press&vibrate, and their small compass support. (You can keep the samsung locking screen/start if you want, you even can keep both interface)

I installed resco explorer, google maps, wmwifi router, pocketspeedtest, m$ my phone thanks to auipga. Very happy with these apps.

Furthermore I totally agree with ninjaW that SPB Mobile Shell radically improves the user experience and comfort. This app decreases the need for 6.5 a bit.

I installed three Aviasoft freeware apps (pocket trees, birds (also in Dutch) and fungi), Midomi music recognition, Wolff translator, Sprite backup , some tv guide and TomTom (with Portsplitter). All confirmed working.

Confirmed not working: Astro Navigator. To install that properly you need WVGA fix 3 (+SdkCerts) which I'm reluctant to install. Switch to VGA for setup.

Impressive, however, does this work on samsung ?

Please read.. I said I got it working..

Just read carefully and follow the steps, you will get it working in half an hour.

@ninjaw thanks for listing your apps!

About TomTom...portsplitter (freeware) is needed to make the internal gps work with TomTom. TomTom still hasn't put effort in developing a tool for internal gps themselves.

I use GPSProxy: http://www.winmo.nl/samsung-omnia-ii-met-t...comment-page-1/

This is a dutch link, The next settings are in english:

My settings: ([x] means marked):

GPS Proxy

Menu -> Extensions:

NMea configuration:

GPS com port: Com7

[x] Mirror GPS input to output port

Output Com port: Com4

Menu -> Virtual Com Ports...

add Com4

Menu -> Settings

[x] Run external app after proxy startup

Navigate to the tomtom .exe, at my it's the following: \Programmabestanden\Navigator\TomTom Navigator.exe

With this setting, tomtom automaticly starts, when you run and start GPSproxy.

Windows mobile settings:

GPS-settings:

Programs -> GPS Programport: COM7

Hardware -> GPS Hardwareport: COM9, Baudrate: 4800

Access -> [x] GPS Automatisch laten beheren

At this point run GPSproxy, and press start. Tomtom should start and than apply the next settings:

Tomtom instellingen:

Other NMEA receiver

Baudrate 4800

GPSProxy Virtual Com Port on Com4 (GPS proxy must run)

Ariekanarie, thanks for the explenation and link.

I agree with ninjaw that portsplitter s*cks big time. My apologies for recommending the app. I installed it and TomTom was working perfectly when I posted the reply. I got some problems after softreset. The Portsplitter program was visable in the background at startup when I had to enter the password. Furthermore the phone didn't automatically go in lock mode anymore.

Also, I have not used TomTom on my previous phone because internal gps does not function. I don't like to start a seperate program before starting the navigation app. Moreover now that I used TomTom this weekend I concluded that I prefer the interface of Sygic McGuider over that of TomTom. Sygic had lane assistance (shows in green arrows on which lane you have to drive) and it shows exactly the same directional signs that are on the road as well.

SPB mobile shell does that very cool: you can pick in all their pictures, and even do it for your SPB selection of contacts

booksync also update bunch of contacts with the actual pic and birthdate, almost automatically
