Guest Xero Xenith
Hey, just got my first Android phone yesterday - HTC Hero, T-Mobile branded, not touched the firmware or other settings so far, just been playing with it and it feels great. A huge improvement over my old Samsung Steel :( I have experience modding and installing firmware on other devices (DS and Wii to an extent, but PSPs extensively over several years), so I know the basic risks involved - with the worst likely outcome always being a complete brick. I've heard about the recovery mode on the Hero (which seems to roughly equate to that on PSP custom firmwares since v0.2 of harleyg²'s). My question is this - what would it take to actually brick the phone past the point of return? As in... having to physically take it back to the store? Huge thanks for any replies :D EDIT: I've now installed the custom recovery image, radio and firmware linked from Paul's MoDaCo thread - went perfectly fine. However I'm still very interested to know how far I can go from here without running any risk of brickage. Guest Amar Sirohi
EDIT: I've now installed the custom recovery image, radio and firmware linked from Paul's MoDaCo thread - went perfectly fine. Can you post the link to the thread which gives the step by step instructions for recovery image, radio and firmware?
Guest Xero Xenith
Here: http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero...ing-wavesecure/ From where it says "ENSURE YOU DO A NANDROID BACKUP SO YOU CAN 'ROLL BACK' IF REQUIRED!" until the end of the post is the guide. It links off to other step-by-step guides, though.
Guest obelisk79
Make your nandroid backup and save it to your PC. Then steer clear of the radio, boot.img and recovery.img and you should always be able to boot into recovery and reliably do a nandroid restore.
