Acer Liquid Cheap Touch Screen

Ok I have recently noticed this on the Liquid, it does not happen on the G1

Take your Liquid and go to some screen with a list (Settings screen for example)

Put your finger on the screen and scroll down very very slowely

you will notice that the menu scrolls in a 'laggy' sort of way, its not smooth

now take a G1 if you have one, or any other phone from HTC, do the same thing as above

you will notice that the menu scrolls smoothly

Is this a hardware (low res touch screen) problem?

or something that can be fixed in software (kernel problem)?

I do feel a bit dissapointed on this... I want the phone to be smooth...

Hehe, you are right :) My G1 scrolls smoother when scrolling slowly. Its the same in Maps. If you scroll faster the A1 is much smoother - looks like the G1 doesent cope with redrawing the list as fast as the A1 so the list kind of jumps downwards.

Dont think its a hardware problem. If you scroll really slow on the A1 it seems like it moves the list the same amount of pixels every time it moves so there must be a definition somewhere in the kernel that tells it how many pixels it should move when scrolling.

If the kernel source is released one day it might be possible to fix it B)

No, I dont use the screen protector.

This is a software thing. If you scroll a list really slow you will see that the list moves quite a few pixels every time it moves and its the same amount of pixels every time. Not a big deal though... didnt even notice it until I read this post :)

I think it's a hardware thing. We still got more than what we paid for.

I couldn't care less, you don't do precision fingerwork, it's not a resistive touchscreen, and I much prefer liquid's screen and snappy platfrm on Hero's better touchscreen resolution.

Noticed the same thing with my Liquid, I too believe this to be fault of the kernel. Reason for this is, when I scroll down slowly it "lags" down the same amount of pixels each time not differing at all. Now I scroll up again and scroll fast down and stop it at the same point where I first scrolled slow. When I now scrolled it "laged" and jumped precisely in the same places and the same amount of pixels. Now, had this been due a hardware fault the "laging" would be inconstant, varying depending on the small variation in finger movement, it would also not scroll same way, but vary depending on where and when I put my finger down to stop fast scrolling.

Anyone having another theory on that?

Anyway, liquid is an extraordinary powerful device for the amount of money paid for it. That's why I usually prefer Acer since their main focus is on the hardware components and not the software which I can tweak and optimize myself to get a performance on level with other more expensive devices. (As for example HTC Hero or Nexus for that mater)
