I just bought a BJ2 from eBay and the phone is in good shape except for a big issue with the d'Pad.
Up, Right, Left work fine, Down is totally dead.

I don't really want to send it out for repair since I can take the phone apart,  so is there a repair that I can do myself
without the possibility of me totally screwing up the phone?

I just did this on my BJII. If you're careful and good with tools, it's not too bad. Dpad costs about $33 online. Helps if you've had experience working on laptops; the connectors are similar, just way smaller on the BJII. Once you've taken the phone apart, you'll see that the dpad is glued down to the board; slip a sharp knife or razor blade under its edge to pop it off the board. Then you'll have to pull up the covering that lines the body underneath the battery to free the old cable, then open up the tiny little connectors on the mainboard to release the old cable. Reverse the steps for the new dpad, maybe put a little glue under it to make it stick.

Remember someone posting a pictorial guide on BJII dismantling, might have been this one http://techrepublic....-189582-27.html

Oh, and check out this Modaco thread. The tip about separating the plastic housing from the silver trim strip with a fingernail was key for me. http://www.modaco.co...how-to-request/

That is what I bought too to replace my screen, the thing is they dont guarantee the D-pad to work. mine for example works fine except the centre button wont click.
So if you buy that, you are taking the risk of getting a working screen and no D-pad.
