Hi guys,

anyone know how to remove the Orange splash screen when the phone boots up?

I've looked on xda, & seen a few descriptions... seen downloads like RUU & replace artemis splash screen...

haven't got a clue how to use them & i'm a bit scared to try - as with my current WM knowledge, phrases like "ROM flash" scare me...!!!

Can anyone advise me RE the above...

Cheers

Adam

Try this! Install the Cab file into the zip and soft reset.

i installed this on my t-mobile work phone (just in case) which is a wm6.5 hd2 & it didn't do anything.... it appears in the list of remove programs tho, which is good :)

is this because its a TMUK phone, not a orange one?

what should it change the boot screen too?

cheers

This is just an alternative (.cab) route to essentially do the same thing as was described in another thread a short while back. Either the .cab or manually you are overwriting the welcomehead_192.png file in the ROM and soft resetting to get the replacement file recognised. The above thread also includes a replacement shutdown animated .gif which is not part of the .cab file here.

Sadly though this only replaces the 3rd boot screen - it appears the dreaded Orange splash screen is hard coded in the ROM boot area and cannot be removed until someone discovers how to dissasembel / reassemble the ROM.

Kevin

Thanks Kevin,

i sorta got the impression from xda that they'd managed to overwrite the boot screen on the htc* devices by over writing the rom files directly... but to be honest much of what's said on xda is like virgin alantic - flys waaay above my head B)

i've already replaced the welcome.png & poweroff.gif (or whatever they're called) & i'm liking that mod :)

i've attached the files i got from xda, see if any of you can make use of them - i assume they're 'kosher' coming from xda... be careful they may break your toshiba !!!!

cheers

Adam

*perhaps htc rom is 'different' i suggest this because when i replaced the .png/.gif files on my TG the msg was 'these are system files are u sure' but when i did the same thing on my work htc the msg was 'these files are on the rom, removing them may damage your device' so maybe the TG rom is encrypted in a way tha htc isn't???? but i can't stress enough - i really dont know what i'm talking about !!

Update to the above re the 17 Mar 10 WM6.5 ROM release - the shutdown.gif trick still works, but as far as I can discover, the welcomehead_192.png replacement has been stymied by the tricky watsits having now hard coded the Orange start screen into the boot process.... Hope someone can spot a solution ?

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

i've found no difference... i've replaced welcomehead & shutdown = they've achieved what they achieved last time

to clarify

i turn my phone on

1 - toshiba appears as txt

2 - orange screen appears (orange logo with orange swirls behind it)

3 - welcomehead "starting windows" png appears (this is very similar to windows 7 PC OS starting)

4 - i must enter lock code then SIM PW (personal settings)

i shut my phone down

1 - i use your pwr off short cut :) (which i still love to bits)

2 - shutdown.gif appears (win logo with little animated pop out icons showing things like facebook)

3 - phone turns off

i've searched the h£ll outta xda today for a fix to the orange boot screen.... i've made a lot of notes... gawd knows what i'm doing.....

but i might have a play with that over the wknd (although spring weather + love of motorcycling is really cutting down on my win-mo play time)

i also can not get rid of orange plus & orange maps despite being brutal with my soft debrand on the new ROM

i've dumped the icons in a seperate folder, but orange plus always arrives back in the start menu

if someone could convince the 'ebay ROM' has the same voice quality as the new ROM, then i'd be tempted... but i'm prob being a bit pedantic, as a boot screen & a couple of spurious prog icons are hardly the worst thing ever....

BTW - had a long chat with my buddy today & he immediately thought i had a new phone or had ditched orange = go new ROM yay ;)

cheers

Adam

Hi Adam,

Thanks for coming back on that - I've just checked and found there was a typo in the 'welcomehead' filename on my rebuild device, so consequently hadn't worked. Just changed and all OK again :)

Glad the Shutdown shortcut is continuing to be a success !

My overall impressions of the new ROM are extremely favourable - I have also been toying with the idea of the 'fully de-branded' ROM but now veering towards sticking with the new official Toshiba offering.

I've simply deleted the unwanted Orange shortcuts form the Start menu, then saved the Start Menu + subfolders and shortcuts separately as an archive - when a HR is needed in future can then just delete the whole lot out of windows\start menu and replace with the archive. Not perfect but best I can think of for now.

Regards,

Kevin
