*EDIT* just found that you can cut and paste text using this which means smartphone software must support cut and paste natively, just hold down shift whilst editing text arrow along to select then control+c to copy and control+v to paste! - Now if only someone could map this to the smartphone keys we would be laughing ;)

Okay now i thought id give this a try and wow it works almost flawlessly! Its called "Remote Display Control" and its part of the pocketpc powertoys.

The url for download is http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/pocketpc/d...s/powertoys.asp

and heres the info from the site

"Remote Display Control for Pocket PC

With the Remote Display Control application, you can display actions on a Pocket PC, including user input, remotely on the display of a desktop or laptop personal computer. This is a great tool for demonstrating the power of the Pocket PC to a large audience. It also allows developers to test their applications for the Pocket PC on a larger screen.

Remote Display Control uses TCP/IP, and it can work with ActiveSync® connections via Ethernet or dial-up. "

Okay now ive managed to work out a few controls as follows:

F1 - Left action button

F2 - Right Action Button

Enter - Middle Action button

Arrow keys - Joystick

F6 - Earpiece up

F7 - Earpiece down

Esc - Back

Its a great piece of software just a couple of notes for running on smartphone:

a) it installs a host on SPV which needs to be run and the screen isnt big enough however when you first start up the host just press the action key and you will still be able to see the "connect" button, alternatively you can run the host with the -c option which will connect automatically!

 for some reason if you go back to the home screen it types constant stars, cant work out why, maybe it wont for you guys!

Personally ive been having much fun writing texts with it from my pc

Enjoy,

DJ Hope

PS: Its a little slow over IR :D Havnt tried usb, left the cradel at uni!

Wicked, you can write sms's from your PC with no pauses ;)

Playing with the controls, it seems "h" is earpiece down and "`" is power off, and it does it instantaniously....

It actually works! I can type SMS's with my keyboard - cool! ;) If you click on settings in the program you can change the display refresh rate. What's that button in the program to the right of the screen that you can't see though? Anyone with a PPC know?

sounds a great app, but when I installed it ran the SPV installer but I can't find the app on the SPV to start it - any suggestions (I've tried deleting the app and reinstalling).

What I really want to do is to use Outlook on my PC to be able to dial out on my SPV and thought this might be a way of getting round the lack of modem drivers - any suggestions on this?

Thanks

Mark

I'm no developer, but if anyone wants to have a go, I think everyone would love to have an outlook plugin that allowed you to send sms's from within outlook using the spv when it is in its cradle (i.e. clicking on the "to:" button in Outlook would allow the user to select a recipient's mobile phone number as the destination). Is that easily feasible?

Sorry for being dumb. I have installed the app, located the file on my SPV using all-explorer and executed it.

I have loaded the PC APP, I have an active ActiveSync connection. Still does not work? :?:

That's my problem as well.

The app on the desktop stays on white screen as i can't find the host app on my SPV

it goes in stroage card/windows/start menu and ipsm/windows/start menu (depending were you decided to install it)

Its not big enough for the smartphone screen so you have to press the action key when you first load then you can see the connect button, click that then click ok on the next screen, then you should be able to connect, alterinatively run it with -c parameter and itll connect automatically.

It's pretty acceptable.

The menu is a bit slower as if it's controlled directly on the phone, but it is still a joy to handle (haven't tried it with doom yet :? )

SMS Speed is good (thinking of having it in the station all my hometime long)

Anyone know how to unload the app from the spv once you've finished. I do not mean uninstall. The app seems to stay running, despite closing the app on the PC.

Thanks Paul

I have copied the spManager file to my SD Card and located it using All Explorer. It runs.

But it runs the Remote software as a process not an App. I killed the process, but it's a bit of run around to do it.

Sorry but not on my SPV - I've looked in every folder using All explorer and from the PC

The SPV definitely receives the file and runs an install and then goes back to homepage - if I press action I just get the last app I used.
