Bluetooth File Transfer on the Desire

My Desire's very strange.

I've got it linked up to a bluetooth headset and car kit with no problems. It runs really well. However when I try and send or receive files, no dice. Using HTC Share I just get 'Failed 0 files sent' in the status bar and with Bluetooth File Transfer it tells me the other device hasn't got object push etc. Tried in EStrongs too to no avail.

Any ideas?

Thanks guys.

I do so love these forums.
Yours works. Good for you. Not much help to me though, hmmm?
I've obviously tried 'just pairing'. Didn't work. Hence my post

I was actually hoping for some constructive suggestions from like-minded Desire owners but if no one else is experiencing this maybe my phone is just broken.

That wasn't so obvious, since you listed almost all Bluetooth-related apps out there.

So, let's be more specific, uh? Sending and receiving is a two-subjects thing: one is your Desire, the other is....?

Yeah fair enough. Thanks for helping.

OK so yep, one device is the Desire and the other is my HTC S730 (Wings) or my Laptop with Nexxus Bluetooth dongle. Tried the Motorola (EDR 2.0) and the Microsoft Bluetooth stack.

OK, let's focus on the laptop: I assume you're running some Windows version, so I guess you send files via right click->sent to->Bluetooth recipient (I can't help you with receiving from devices to the computer since my BT pen crapdrivers never allow me to do that).

After pairing the partners, on the Desire you'll receive a notification (audible but not instantly visible): you'll have to drag down the status bar, tap on the notification alert and tap on "Accept".

If you don't do that in a certain time, the transfer will likely fail.

Is this your case?

Nope. Sorry mate. I don't mean to be rude but I'm an IT Professional so we can discount the obvious.

This is interesting. I just tried again and it actually gave me the notification and even started to receive...but then stopped after 22%. Something is amiss.

Sorry for the delay.

Well, so this isn't a Desire' fault. Have you made all of your tests in the same environment? Perhaps, cordless phones in the nearby.......

I suppose it could be. However I can send from my HTC 730 and laptop very easily but can't send or receive from either on the Desire.

I'll give it a go at home later. I still think it's a problem with the handset though and someone's talking on XDA about a glitchy bluetooth stack in the Desire so perhaps there's more to it.

This is possible. Perhaps it works with some counterpart stack and does not with other: I've managed to exchange files with many phones, PCs and, obviously, with other Desire hansets without a problem.

The only thing I cannot do is sending a file from the Desire to my work PC, since this PC doesn't accept incoming connections at all. But this is its fault.

A good test would be to try a second HTC Desire and see if that works. I will investigate this weekend and pass on my findings.

Thanks for your help.
