Desire camera problem

Greetings,

Long time lurker, first time poster! Finally decided to buy this device, and am pretty satisfied with it, if not for this problem with the camera app.

As far as I can tell by now, randomly, the image displaying onscreen when trying to take a photo changes to something similar to the photos attached. Half of the image is displaced to the other side and a blue and/or purple hue is added to the 2 layers created this way. Kinda hard to explain, please check the pictures! :P

Anyone else experienced this problem? Post your thoughts/opinions

This is just an example I made:

Thanks!

Yep, same thing happend to me on rooted Desire. It happend while camera was switching to macro recording because i closed camera to book because i wanted to check hows the quality from close range recording. Also light changed from very light to dark as it was switching to macro recording, so i guess that makes it bug.

Thanks for replying! Seems I'm not alone in this! :P

Contacted HTC team and the answer I got was to boot the device in safe mode and see if it happens...

Booted into safe mode and the same happens on the camera app(video also). It happens when I focus on a very close object like letters in a book and then switch to a distant object like ivicask mentioned. It will not happen every time, but sometimes it does. I believe you can try it on any desire and will probably get this result since this seems a software bug in my humble opinion.

You can also try to experience this in this way:

•Open camera app and manually focus on a book about 2 or 3 centimetres so you can see the letters clearly.

•Then, quickly, try focusing on a more distant object with preferably different lighting conditions (I can do this in front of the computer screen with ambient light on minimum: I'll focus first on a book and then on the PC screen.)

•Keep repeating until the effect shows up.

These are my device's details in case someone finds it useful.

Should I get it replaced? I still have 10 days to get a immediate replacement at the shop (Worten in portugal), but might well end up with another one with the same problem :P

Hi,

You are not alone :D

I had the same problem with my first Desire (stock rom, unbranded).

I posted a video on youtube:

I had 5 days to get a replacement, which I did. My new Desire has not failed me so far (and believe me I tried hard to reproduce the glitch). I really think it is a hardware problem.

I would get a replacement while there is still time.

This happens on mine, I got photos and videos doing this. I also have one issue where the lcd screen ofset the display to the left so it looks like it has gone wide-screen but to one side.

I'll add some pics later when back home!

Strange thing:

If I remove my sim card (vodafone) and start the phone without it, I am unable to experience this problem. Tried it for hours to no avail, then after installing my sim card, on the 3 try, there it is :)

This really is starting to look like quite a widespread problem. I recently sent my Desire for repair having experienced this problem quite a bit. I started a thread on XDA Devs...

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=672476

Since then, I found a second thread on XDA...

and on AndroidForums...

Gutted. Other than this issue, its the best damned phone out there (I know apple fanbois here, at work, are selling (mizuma etc) their iPhones to get one!)

Hi everyone

I have had this bug on two different HTC Desire handset on Vodafone.

Only last night did I finally figure this one out.............the camera bug will only appear when data is being sent /received to or from the device using the GSM network (appears as G at the top of the handset screen). Therefore the GSM signal must be conflicting with the camera display.

To test this do the following......

1. Set your phone to use the GSM network only.

2. Open up a mail program to syn email and therefore fire up the GSM. The circular arrows will appear at the top of the screen to the left of the 'G'

3. Quickly exit the mail program and while the circular arrows are still there open up the camera...............there you have it...the purple /pink split screens!!

Let me know if this brings up the bug on your handsets.

I have done a lot of research on the internet about this and everyone that is experiencing this problem seems to be using an unbranded handset on the Vodafone network. There must be a link in there, maybe the unbranded phone being unable to use the updated Vodafone firmware which doesn’t have this issue.

I really hope HTC can sort this in a firmware update.

Dan

Having the same issue when I am on the G network.

With 3G no problem.

I have an unbranded version, with Android 2.2 on it.
