I see some "guides" popping up for people to revert this and that, and it's making my head spin. :D

I see Paul's tweet here that we will be able to use custom recovery:

http://twitter.com/PaulOBrien/status/14514244455

FRF50 pre-rooted complete update zip for use with custom recoveries is uploading now... pardon my slow DSL upload!

What will be the process with this?

Flash stock zip, flash froyo zip?

Or will we still have to revert radios, recoveries, shipping rom, 2.1 update-1, etc??

I guess I should rephrase my question:

Will some of that (or ALL OF IT) be unnecessary ones Paul releases his FroYo update for custom recoveries?

Yes.

wait for a bit, u ll be able to apply pauls update.zip using ur custom recovery without going through the hassle of restore to stock, update, and reinstall custom recovery.

PERFECT!

I don't want to lose root, lose recovery, and lose the possibility of [easily] going back to Desire after playing around with 2.2.

Plus, it's almost time for the Engadget Show! :D

So once Paul's file comes out, just boot into recovery and flash zip, right?

No Paul is just uploading the patched UPDATE, so it'll work with a custom recovery. It's not a full ROM so you have to go back to stock ROM first.

This doesn't mean flashing the stock recovery though... Just the system, userdata & boot that's it.

You could also try this. Id just wait for paul but i think this guide is easier.

Yes, that's the one I meant. It looks ridiculous haha.

Oh, so we'll still have to re-flash radio to ERE27?

So now that Paul's update is out, has anyone gone from Desire to 2.2?

If so, how did you do it?

Paul says no wipe is needed, but that makes no sense...?

I just wiped everything (data, cache, Dalvik-cache, rotate, battery) and flashed the zip.

I consistently keep getting the Android falling out of the box.

Has anyone successfully gone from Desire to 2.2 using Paul's zip??

Step 1: Sell your Desire

Step 2: Buy a Nexus One

Step 3a: Accept the OTA update, if your Nexus One does not come with Foryo

Step 3b: Download the update and install it manually, if your Nexus One does not come with Foryo AND you are not getting the OTA notification

Note: If you are rich enough, skip step 1.

I have a Nexus One, hence posting in this forum, you know, the one with the 7000 posts about the Desire ROM?

Just to reiterate this, I've tried this 3 times so far, wiped EVERYTHING, flashed the update, and it will not boot.

Has anyone successfully flashed the update coming from Desire ROM?

Yep, Desire ROM.

I think he was trying to be a smart ass though. Lame.

Bless!

Paul will do the proper desire 2.2 next week- he tweeted as such today.

I'm curious though if anyone has managed to install 2.2 onto the Desire rom......I'm trying not to be impatient !

That's what I'm wondering.

I guess not many people use Paul's Desire ROM...?

I wonder if we have to flash a non-Sense UI rom before the 2.2 ROM?

Has no one done Sense UI --> FroYo yet?

1. Copy Paul's pre-rooted FroYo update.zip (from here) ]to the root of your SD Card.

2. Boot into recovery (Preferably at least Amon Ra 1.6.2 or newer/equivalent)

3. Make a nandroid backup (+ext if you use it)

4. Wipe data+cache, Battery Stats and Rotate settings

5. Flash Paul's Pre-Rooted FroYo ROM.

6. Reboot.

7. Wait for the radio update to finish & return to recovery.

8. Reboot again.

9. Enjoy 2.2.

The Desire ROM will need to be largely rebuilt to work with 2.2. You can forget about it for a few days.

To return to a stock (but rooted) 2.1 ROM replace steps 1. & 5. with these steps instead:

1. Download the EPF21B update.zip from here and copy that to the root of the SD card too.

5. Flash the EPF21B update.

Gonna put this as a separate topic and hopefully alleviate questions.

Hi All,

I flashed it over the Desire Alpha17..

Whiped everything.

What I got is something that ooks like pure 2.2 no Sense Ui any more..

Looks like this...

All HTC Aps gone too..

Every thing that reminds on Desire Rom has gone.

But works!

Flash Paul's Pre-Rooted FroYo ROM.

Reboot.

Wait for the radio update to finish & return to recovery.

Reboot again.

This is the step that was missing!

I thought that when it rebooted to recovery, it didn't go through, so I was re-flashing.

I just needed to reboot again! Thanks!

That's because a wipe+restore removes the system partition where all the SenseUI apps & libraries etc. live. FroYo is NOT a HTC SenseUI ROM, it's a bare Google Android ROM.

If you want a Desire lookalike ROM you'll either need to reflash Paul's Desire ROM, or wait until he (or someone else) rebuilds a new one based on the FroYo infrastructure.
