Hi,

I created today a 'rootedupdate.zip' that contains system and boot.img version 1.21.405.2. As far as I know this is not available anywhere else.

Advantages:

* It can be used instead of Paul´s rootedupdate.zip in the rooting guide to update directly to 1.21.405.2

* Get stock SW version 1.21.405.2, without updating hboot and/or radio

* Rooted (superuser apk and su)

* and more...

I tested it with my unbranded, rooted desire SW version 1.15.405.2 (without wiping before or after update).

After update, software info says:

Baseband version 32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11

Kernel: 2.6.29-0cb9f166 htc-kernel@and18-2 #1

Build: 1.21.405.2 cl174215 release keys

And everything seems to work.

Apps and data preserved.

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

All modifications (e.g. fonts) in /system are lost after this update.

in theory A2SD should *NOT* be lost (the symlinks in /data are not touched). However, the startup script is lost. I do not know how this will influence the behaviour of your device. So, please be careful. Do not update, if you do not know what you are doing :(

A couple of users reported now, that this update is working. However, if you use A2SD then after update your device will probably be in a bootloop. In this case reinstall A2SD and everything should be fine.

Fantastic!! You could get a free Dropbox account and make the file shared? Or maybe put it on Rapidshare or Megaupload?

* you will lose a2sd!

* applications and settings are not lost (because only /system is overwritten)

After update your device will have a rooted stock rom version 1.21.405.2.

However, use at your own risk!

I tested this update only with my own device. No confirmation that it worked for others yet.

My too...

My device was rooted using Paul´s method. I had no a2sd or other additional modifications.

Then I copied my update zip to the sd card, started recovery again and selected the zip file.

After a few minutes it was done. Rebooted. Worked.

How did you update?

What was on your device before update?

Was a2sd installed?

In this thread is an alternative update.zip by user mountnorth:

http://android.modaco.com/content-page/310...-405-2/page/20/

Maybe you can give it a try. I quickly looked into it and seems pretty much the same besides that he used SU 2.1, while I used the one in Pauls 1.15.405.4 rootedupdate.zip.

I can confirm that I flashed your ROM and it worked beautifully! Many thanks!

The only other thing I did was to re-flash my Busybox, but that was easy to do from the instructions here:

The problem could be because of A2SD.

But because I dont use A2SD, I sont know it for sure.

Good luck with OTA!

Can't u install the apps2sd from a separate zip after you have installed the main stock rooted Rom like you could during the r1 rooting method to get it to work will try this tonnight but would be nice to know if possible before if someone could test it.

I see no reason why it should not work. If you try it, please let us know!

Update:

I had 1.15*** rooted with apps2sd on a nonbranded Desire. Tried to apply the update.zip as provided in the first post. My phone went into a bootloop. So the only thing remaining was from the recovery:

a full wipe

apply the update.zip

reboot till the login-screen

powerdown

back to recovery

apply the apps2sd-fresh.zip

reboot

Now i have a rooted Desire 1.21*** with apps2sd fully working.

Only thing I now have to do is, re-installing all my apps....

So just simpel updating from 1.15 to 1.21 with the provided update.zip is a nogo.

Anyway, thanks for OP's for sharing.....

Installed from recovery no-problem (no wipe)

Installed apps2sd dalvik version used in the r1 root method no-problem (no ext wipe) - if your having boot-loop its probably because the kernel does not support ext4 partition so you need to convert back to ext3.

Checked via adb (adb shell ls -l /data) to see if apps2sd is installed correctly and it is.

Didn't install busybox forgot to copy the file to my sd card lol

Rebooted, bit of a small wait after the quietly brilliant (which normal after a flash)

Everything worked ok, apart from wifi. doesn't seem to turn on, i am sure there's a workaround in this forum somewhere, so off to find a solution now. other than that probably go back on pauls r3.1 rom, but have a sneeky feeling it might not work on that, (have to confess though did this off a previous r3.1 install to test to see if it works) probably why wifi may not work even though it was working on r3.1 and may of worked, if i went from previous stock rooted rom to this update rather than pauls r3.1 rom.

Turned off phone (volume down + power) reboot can confirm its HBOOT 075 still.

couldn't find any info on how or why the wifi does not work gone back to Pauls r3.1 rom and wifi working again, if someone finds a fix for this then i will come back to using this particular stock rom again. All i can do is give you a run down of my specification.

Tried this rom using: HTC Desire Unbranded HBOOT 075 on Vodafone (UK) sim deal, flashing from Pauls r3.1 rom.

Which radio version?

My wifi is working without problems using this update.

Found this thread @xda-developers about this topic:

Maybe you find a solution there.
