I recently traded my Milestone (Telus version) for a Motoroi XT701 due to the lack of Root options for the Telus Milestone.  From what I researched the Motorois are UNSIGNED (??) and that I can just flash custom kernel or recovery (using the SBF and RSD Lite) to root or customize.  Can I use any of the ones being used for Droid or Milestone to do any of this?  Especially the leaked 2.2 update?
Since I'm fairly new to the Android Market and have NEVER rooted or installed custom ROM on any of my Android Devices, can anyone verify this information?  

I'm willing to provide whatever info is on my device if it would help. The Motoroi is a fairly new device and is a backup phone so I don't mind using it as the Guinea Pig.

A little off topic, but how do you like the XT701?  I'm looking at either the Milestone or XT701, as I'm on AT&T and have limited choices.  I've always been interested in the Nexus One but am afraid of the signal issues.
