main issue is ebay will charge me a fortune to sell my desire like 15% which is a lot on 350£

if i were to change dell streak id likely want to find someone to do a swap. + some cash since streak is more expensive.

and i need unlocked since im on 3 ... so i guess ill need rebelII

Well i just bought my streak on ebay and saved 100quid on CPWH's price, only had the desire a month as well and so far not regretting it and 2.2 should make it a lot more entertaining, if you've got big pockets and dont use the desire's fmradio i'd recommend going for it. Oh and the web browsing on the streak is WAY better.

I am at a kind of crossroads for the Streak, I also have the Desire as well.

The first Streak I had, the back kept popping off, but O2 replaced it and this one does not seem to have that problem.

However, outside of the screen size it has just not grabbed me as a great piece of kit, there seems to be a bunch of drawbacks that I have found after using it for about 1 1/2 weeks.

Obviously some of this is personal preference, and in no particualr order.

  • Using it as a phone is awful, the proximity sensor does not seem to work correctly and I find the volume to be far too low. I either can't hear them or they can't hear me, headset does not really help.
  • The headphones provide only pause/play, which I find annoying when trying to use it as a music player.
  • The forced landscape mode for the home screen is awful as I tend not to use it that way. I know I can use other launchers, and tried ADW but found that if I set it up in portrait, when it landscaped it was a mess.
  • Why was it necessary to use a custom usb connector, and at £24 what a laugh, I mean seriously how many people are going to buy the dock so they can have an hdmi port, whereas everyone needs to charge it.
  • The icons on the screen have that black tile surround, what is the matter with just transparent icons?
  • Lack of any real widgets from dell. Those supplied are rather basic and fairly plain looking and don't really go with the rest of the device.
  • Some widgets just do not work on the Home Screen, 1 that comes to mind is last.fm, most of it is missing, but under adw launcher it displays fine.
  • Inability to get rid of the Favourites bar of the programs menu. If it is frequently used it is on the home screen.
  • The keyboard, why oh why did they decide that to get that alternate character you have to first tap alt, instead of just a long press like every other keyboard/phone?

Is it me being too hard on the device, or is it just having used the Desire at 2.1 then using the Streak at 1.6?

Now I must admit I love the screen size and I think I will keep it as there is no other phone out there that I want. However i think I will go back to the Desire and take the sim out of the Streak and use it solely as a wifi device at home and work.

Cheers,

Peter

and is there a hack for market to get all apps.. even the 2.0+ ones

No, the 2.x API's are required for 2.x applications, but a simple search would have told you that.
