I am having a bit of a problem with my SMS messages on my Desire, for some reason, the majority of the time when my Fiancee sends me an SMS message, it will take ages to actually be sent to my phone.

Sometimes it will not come through until someone else sends me a text, and they will both come through at the same time, or it will come through when I have sent another text message.

I am using:

Firmware Version: 2.1 -update1
Baseband Version: 32.37.00.32U_4.06.00.16_2
Kernel Version: 2.6.29-bravo-uvoc-r14-trip@trip-laptop #7
Build Number: 1.21.MCR.2 CLxxxxxx release-keys
Software Number: MoDaCo Custom ROM r3.1 for the HTC Desire
Browser Version: Webkit 3.1

I am also using Handcent for my SMS, but I wouldn't imagine that would be the problem, also I am on O2, and my fiancee is on Vodafone if that makes any difference.

Had the same problem on friday/saturday. Every text I sent never actually went through.

I removed Handcent and installed ChompSMS > problem solved.

Could be because I reside in Sweden, have a Swedish operator, and the software is initially american?

Try it out, mate. See what happens. Don't forget to force close it and uninstall it before you try ChompSMS. Handcent will keep trying and block all texts if you don't.

INFO:
Using DeFrost 1.5 UVOC. All wiped before install.
No apps except Opera, Terminal Emulator and ChompSMS installed... yet.
