Mine goes down in 1% increments from 100-90, then seems to be in 10% chunks, sometimes 5%.

Ok getting a new one.

what is best to do with the battery once I get it?

Shall I use it before charging?

No, Charge it up first.

Connect the charger, with the phone off, then charge it, and for the first week or two, let the battery get extremely low/fully drain, before charging it again.

Thats how you get a battery to its full potential, rather than trickle charging it every so often.

The battery is a better one than in some phones these days, as to get a whole day from them is lucky.

and to comment on the increment levels, I've seen mine go down in 1's, 5's, and 10's, although today, it alerted me that my battery was at 15%, and to connect my charger.

till it tells you that it's fully charged..You will have a black screen, just press, either home, or the call or end call button, to switch the screen on..you will then see either "charging", or "fully charged, please remove charger" on the screen.

OK I've done some research and this is what I came up with :

GT540 has Lithium-ion battery ( http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=...wift_lg_optimus )

Simple Guidelines

Avoid frequent full discharges because this puts additional strain on the battery. Several partial discharges with frequent recharges are better for lithium-ion than one deep one. Recharging a partially charged lithium-ion does not cause harm because there is no memory. (In this respect, lithium-ion differs from nickel-based batteries.) Short battery life in a laptop is mainly cause by heat rather than charge / discharge patterns.

Batteries with fuel gauge (laptops) should be calibrated by applying a deliberate full discharge once every 30 charges. Running the pack down in the equipment does this. If ignored, the fuel gauge will become increasingly less accurate and in some cases cut off the device prematurely.

Keep the lithium-ion battery cool. Avoid a hot car. For prolonged storage, keep the battery at a 40% charge level.

Consider removing the battery from a laptop when running on fixed power. (Some laptop manufacturers are concerned about dust and moisture accumulating inside the battery casing.)

Avoid purchasing spare lithium-ion batteries for later use. Observe manufacturing dates. Do not buy old stock, even if sold at clearance prices.

If you have a spare lithium-ion battery, use one to the fullest and keep the other cool by placing it in the refrigerator. Do not freeze the battery. For best results, store the battery at 40% state-of-charge.

I found if I checked the batter level on the phone it would always say 99% but if you are charging via the PC and USB cable, if you check your PC tools it will say charged when done. I think the 99% thing is because the phone is switched on and therefore can never actually be at 100% and so will always show 99%

even if you turn it off while charging its still show 99% when you turn it on after full charged.

pfff gyes how is that possible saying 100 % and still charging ??

When goes up to 100% instead of charge 100% it says , Fully charged, please remove cable...

Now for the battery time ... thats pretty low for that huge 1500mah battery.I dont know the reason

bad battery ? or cpu contantly runs on 100% to avoid lags ?
