03/August r2 - XXJP3 (Froyo) pre-rooted / insecure boot / ClockworkMod recovery for Odin

I've not created a package for Odin before, but I thought it'd have a go at packaging up XXJP3 pre-rooted (as it's a bit of a pain to root).

So here it is - XXJP3 for Odin, pre-rooted with the latest Superuser Permissions, an insecure bootloader (so you can push files directly from adb / adb shell direct to root), clockworkmod recovery (replacing the stock recovery which can't flash test signed / unsigned images) and no other changes, and 512 PIT file included. Please provide feedback... I flashed to my device and it seemed to work but, well, you know... this is a new way of doing things. :D

BACKUP EVERYTHING ON YOUR DEVICE / SD CARD FIRST!

Enjoy! :)

Any chance of having non Odin flash for firmwares. You had mentioned that there would be firmwares MCR directly flashable from sd card without specific Odin pre flash first. I'm on a Mac and its painful to find Windows machines esp to flash this. That's the only reason I'm not giving up my Desire yet.

It's coming!

I believe Odin always wipes anyway...?

P

No it doesn't, maybe if you check repartition...but I am supposing it. When I upgraded from JM2 to JP3, without repartition...I found, after flashing Froyo ROM not rooted, busybox files in main memory...

Am I right?

THANKS PAUL!

Im on the train going home, will flash this eve...

Do you know if there is anything special I would need to do to get apps2sd working with this rom?

I assume I would have to format my external sd card using linux with a fat partition then an ext3 partition, and THEN flash this rom, and then?

(pardon for the lack of knowledge here, I have been trying to understand what to do for weeks and my understanding (or lack thereof) is not due to laziness or for lack of reading...

I believe you need a kernel that supports the ext partitions and mounts it at bootup. I don't know (but doubt) that the default kernel for any Samsung device does...

So there is no lag fix applied or provided, correct?

Is there a need to apply the so-called 'lag-fix' in this firmware release anyway?

Hi and tx for the reply,

I have read of people who have app2sd working with Galaxy S, but I have never read a how-to. With my old Hero, it was just an apk that I ran, and it was sorted... I ask again because I had another message warning me about low system space (not sure what the wording was), so I uninstalled Asphalt and then cleared some 50mb cache somewhere and that took the message away, but it would be good to have it working.

Cheers,

Mark.

This is great paul...works very well.

I dont suppose anyone has the apk for Asphalt 5? It was present in earlier firmwares, but not in this one

Thanks

Completely stock except for root.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the reply, but I am a n00b and need to ask this question again: Is there a need for the lag fix in this firmware release? have you noticed any overall improvements or are we all just feeling the placebo effect?

The stock recovery appears to perform checks on packages now, which prevents Clockwork recovery from starting! :)

Titanium backup will restore my SMS/MMS but the database appears to be incompatible...I did do a backup with MyBackup Pro also, but it failed, so went to restore my Nandroid to find that it doesn't work!

So reflashing JG5, installing ROM Manager, restoring my Nandroid, backing up with MyBackup Pro again...etc...hassle!

EDIT: Arghh something has reformatted my ext4 partition on ext-sd as j4fs!

EDIT again: Turns out Nandroid doesn't backup the zImage

Does this work on the captivate?

It works, but the screen is rotated 90 degrees on app launch, voice sounds awful, bottom keypad "home" does not work. Other than that, its fast. Need some dudes from Modaco to help us port it......
