Basically a regular phone makes calls and can somtimes run simple Java based games etc in the with todays phones most are "smartphones" as such as they can do a varity of jobs from playing moves to taking photos to running different applications.
In the past the original name Smartphone with a capital "S" was the name used for Windows Mobile devices but now it is more a general term.
