Excuse me? Whats my friends phones go to do with it? Their phones can make 'native' video calls just fine. My android phone can not make 'native' video calls. Please...explain you comments Just like a computer web cam you still need software to make the call - wether it's skype, fring, qik, etc. What phones can natively video call each other without software? It has IP calling, but not video calling if you get my meaning. The contracts we have have no video calling minutes allowance. This is the way its done on some phones and the way it was originally done by 3 many years ago. You needed no extra software, it was built in to the dialer and worked just like placing a call. The iPhone 4 doesn't have that sort of calling either, it has IP video-conferencing via Wifi only. Its just an Apple app, nothing more. There's no competition, we're all droid here.. fwiw the samsung can call other samsungs with the same software installed, no more no less. I presume gingerbread will start to include facecalling in sys, but as of now you need a 3rd party app, whether its installed by your manufacturer or not. Video calling is a specific thing, that works with any brand and any network that has a video option in the dialler that routes via the networks telephony servers, NOT the 'internet'. Every phone ive had since 3g came out has been able to make video calls with no extra software. If you're freind's had Android phones with front facing cameras, they could video call with you (well, IP call, using a program like Fring) Their phones can make 'native' video calls just fine. If by 'native' you mean iphone4-iphone4 over wifi... then sure... they can do that. But that's not a limitation of your phone, it's a limitation of theirs. My android phone can not make 'native' video calls. again, If by 'native' you mean iphone4-iphone4 over wifi... buy an iphone. If you mean old school "video call" like European carriers have supported for years... Why would you want it to? Please...explain you comments I think i just did. "Video calling" as has existed for years is a dying breed... Why would I want to be able to "natively' video call my friends phone, using minutes and getting charged by my carrier, when I can install an app and use my unlimited data plan to video call anyone's phone who has a compatible app... OR better yet, anyone's PC who has skype? what you are asking Android to be capable of is really quite limited and I'm glad it isn't. Now I am a happy user of Dell Streak (and Android) but I am sad to see that native 3g video calling isn't available on Dell Streak / Android. If I were aware of this situation, I would have re-considered my decision while making the purchase for Dell Streak. I know that IP video calling is more efficient and economic but unfortunately my 70 year old father does have no knowledge of installing Fring or other software to his phone. Sure it costs money, but if you have a contract you can get free minutes. I agree its going out, but thats because it costs the networks money. Skype/Fring is slow and jerky at times, as is facetime, its a limited less functional, less complete and less simple option. Europe is bigger than the US, and video calling was adopted in Asia and Australia as well. The US is only 5% of the worlds population... Anyway im not having a go at you im having a go at JWhite who fails to realise than the Galaxy S is just the same as the streak in terms of support for 'video calling'. Guest rovex Posted August 28, 2010 Report Share Posted August 28, 2010 Last time i checked, which was when i had an N95 8GB, Symbians could do IP video calling as well, so there isnt really an excuse for android and iOS not to be able to do both. Of course that would also mean they could call all the feature phones that have video calling as well. We know apple has no interest in following standards (or laws!), but Google should know better. To be honest i think its a way to make people upgrade to smart phones. They reject old standards and create new ones so people have to upgrade to maintain functionality. Can work over Wifi/fast enough data connections via Fring and Qik. Stop with the flaming theres really no need over something so trivial.
