I was hoping to avoid having to sync everything with gmail, as it's another step and prevents me from sync when I'm working offline on a laptop. A small ,stable and user-friendly plug-in for Outlook that lets you sync Gmail with Outlook (as well as other services such as iCloud and BB etc) This can be done wireless, and its super easy to setup. You can transfer calendar and contacts via Wi-Fo hotspot or over the Internet (through a secured 3-rd party DNS service).
