Well, the time is nearly here to replace my Hero. It's been a great phone, and has convinced me Android is the way forward.

Now, what's the best phone I can upgrade to now? I don't mind waiting a few months, but it needs to be good (to beat the Hero, it has to be!)

I think we can pretty much rule out the iPhone 4... I'd like a phone that can actually make phone calls.  :P

I'm currently on a hero as well and I'm thinking about getting a Desire HD still waiting for GSMArena's review on it, was thinking about maybe getting the Galaxy S but over at XDA I've read a lot of people complaining about issues with it such as Lag fixing and Samsung pulling the 2.2 firmware.

Desire HD for me as well. just as soon as it appears in australia.

A friend had the galaxy S and I was quite impressed with it, though I prefer the sense UI to the samsung one and have also heard too many negatives about it to have it seriously on the list as my hero replacement.

From what I've read about the Desire HD is that the loudspeaker is apparently rubbish, that's my main concern with this phone.

I've also heard the Desire HD has a pretty awful battery life, but then again, which smartphone doesn't these days?

The Desire HD was my first choice, but maybe not anymore. Any alternatives? Or am I looking for a phone that doesn't exist? :P

Sorry to say that but the iPhone 4 has a very good battery life. No, I'm not an Apple fanboy and I use a Desire (used a Hero before that), I'm just stating the fact.

The battery life is a serious issue with the Desire HD. It has a bigger screen and a higher clocked CPU than the Desire Z, yet the capacity of the battery on the HD is lower than that on the Z.
