Sluggish data transfer and calls not reaching me after CPW 2.1 upgrade

I manually upgraded using the 2.1 carphone warehouse rom yesterday (had to do it in emergency mode after the LG updater crashed everything mid-install and bricked the phone).

Since then data transfer has been really sluggish and unreliable. Facebook, Twitter, Android Market... all take two or three reloads before data starts transferring. Txt's also take a while to send. This is in a 3G area with max bars on the phone.

Additionally, while my mob is telling me i have full signal, people have been unable to get through to me. I generally have to turn the phone on and off a couple of times to correct this.

Any suggestions for why this may be or how to improve things?

Anyone else getting this?

Help appreciated.

Mark

I'm using the CPW 2.1 ROM with giffgaff, before that I was using the Baltics 2.1.

Typical speedtest results:

Baltics 2.1 -- 2500 kbps down, 1500 kbps up, 100 ms ping.

CPW 2.1 -- 1500 kbps down, 150 kbps up, 150 ms ping.

I'm literally getting a tenth of the upload speed that I was before, and the slower ping is noticeable, as although it's usually around 150ms, it's sometimes much worse, > 400 ms.

I've tried Three, T-mobile and Vodafone as well. Only Three is performing well. I can't definitely blame the ROM, I suppose that there could be some coincidental network issue, but if this remains for more than a few days I'm going to try the Europe Open 2.1, or go back to Baltics 2.1.

Intrested in your finding on the Europe Open. I was actually thinking of going with the CPW update but think I'll pass now.

I didn't wait a few more days, I went back to Europe Open, then Baltic, and back again to Europe Open. There was no difference in speed.

This morning I had another look at giffgaff (toggling the radio on and off to get it to reconnect) and got the same slow response; popped the Three SIM in and *Zooooom* much better, literally no more than 20 minutes later I put the the giffgaff SIM back in and *Zooooom* much better.

I'm going to have to put it down to coincidence, and conclude that a network problem occurred the same evening I upgraded to CPW 2.1 and was fixed this morning when I've been tinkering; but I haven't ruled out some issue with upgrading resulting in a phone starting with less than ideal settings.

Anyway having used Baltic 2.1, CPW 2.1 and Europe Open 2.1 over the last few days I'm sticking with Europe Open.

Advantages of Europe Open 2.1:

* I seem to be getting HSUPA again, but that may be nothing more than coincidence.

* Newer build than the Baltic 2.1.

* Doesn't need More Locale to set the language/region to format telephone numbers.

* £ sign appears in texts, that was missing on Baltic 2.1

* One of my purchased apps was missing from the Android Market on CPW 2.1

Despite reflashing a couple of times, including to different roms i still had issues with calls not reaching me and data. I had to take my phone back to CPW which luckily they replaced without asking any questions. Staying on 1.6 for now, as i don't want to risk knackering another phone.

I was trying to fix my GPS so was using the GPS Test in the hidden menu (3845#*540#). Under GPS App Main Menu is the entry Oper/Country Ver. On CPW 2.1 it shows the operator as open which we knew anyway but then it shows the country as KR :| Doubt it makes any difference in real terms but at least the Baltic and Russian ones shows the countries they were from.

It's the same on Europe Open, but it doesn't seem to matter.

Right well with cpw 2.1 it seems that when the hspda network is connected my messages and phone calls don't come through properly but when I'm just connected to wifi without the hspda they come through all spot on. I read somewhere that something opens up every so often to let calls and texts , what I'm wondering is if its not doing that correctly.
