Need help on implementing complex text rendering support in android 2.1

Hello there,

Am from Kerala,India. My mother tounge is Malayalam. Like most of the other Indic languages my language have a complex text layout and lot of ligatures. I made the text appearing by replacing DroidSansFallback.ttf by a Malayalam Unicode font. But there is no complex rendering.

Harfbuzz can be used for glyph shaping for Indic scripts.Skia indeed have harfbuzz support. But in the androids ported version of skia there is no support for harfbuzz. As far as I know libskia.so, libskiagl.so, and libwebcore.so library files are used for text rendering in android. I also found a method to make arabic work in android by replacing these files. I guess Arabic also need complex rendering and is a RTL language. I think arabicandroid is the project behind this patched library files, but their google code page is not publically accesible.

So anyone know a way to make complex rendering for my language work by implementing harfbuzz or some other way?

Im sorry i cant offer any advice, but on a different note, your english is far better than most english speakers B)
