Hi,

Me and my big mouth earlier saying the LG update worked perfectly...

I used PC Suite to sync/backup all my contacts, photos etc.

Did the update.

Re-synced the stuff back on to the phone.

Photos, wallpapers, calender etc all fine, but NO CONTACTS!!!

I've tried most versions of the settings in the Sync Suite (merge, PC-phone, etc)

but nothing works.

The PC Suite and the phone both think something is happening.

ie progress bar, sync swirl spinning, "171 contacts synced"...

but there's fook all there.

Anyone any ideas please?

I don't want to have to type in 171 names and address etc...

The one wierd bit is this, yesterday I had to phone home (ET...)

Typed in my number (obviously.. no contacts yet)

Tried the syncing today but no joy,

except now my call log shows "Home" on the number I called...??

The contacts are normally synced with Gmail, have you connected to Gmail after you upgraded the firmware? That should sort it, unless you don't use Gmail...

Hard to use the phone without a gmail account given you need one to access the Market. Not that Google is trying to force you in to using it's other services.

@DingIsBack - Go to the contact list and hit the menu button then select Display Options. Make sure PC Sync is set to be displayed.

@carbonize On that page settings are set to Sync for PC sync, SIM and googlemail.

I dont use googlemail normally, its only there for the market and similar necessities .

On the main Account and Sync Setting page accounts for google set to sync on, but Phone sync off. (thats the little spinner icon)

But I think this only comes on when the phone/pc are actually sync-ing.

(or am I wrong? I can't alter this for some reason... There is nothing there to "tick", only "remove account")

what i really don't understand is this bit

The PC Suite and the phone both think something is happening.

ie progress bar, sync swirl spinning, "171 contacts synced"...

They do think they are doing something.

And also as mentioned before, it knew that "018xx-xxxxxxx" was my "Home" number, and it now knows my mums number.

These are the only 2 numbers I have used, one I called home, the other, my mum sent me a text.

How can it know this if the phone hasn't synced? (ie it must have done something)

How come the contacts aren't actually available? (fooked up?)

LG have been useless so far...

On a side not, does anyone know how to copy/rip out the contacts from the PC Suite into a CSV? I can always use the import app and bypass this issue.

(This may be preferable because then I can edit the data and to do it in open office would be a lot quicker)

Under Display Options is All Contacts ticked under Phone (PC Sync) ?

Yes,

Phone - PC sync - all contacts - ticked

SIM - all contacts - ticked

googlemail - about 6 options - all ticked

Further info...

In PC Suite IV I have 171 contacts. full A-Z listings

If I use Explorer on my PC to go to the folder where PC Suite stores its data there are only 85 vCards in the directories.

It cuts off alphabetically, A-K present, L-Z missing.... except (M)um

Don't know if this is any use to you, but I have also have been having no end of issues since "upgrading" to 2.1...

I finally figured out how to get the contacts on there since the LG PC Suite decided it didn't want to recognise my Outlook (the Outlook stuff might not apply to you) - I want nothing to do with gmail so was looking for a "local" method

1. Export contacts from outlook as a csv file

2. Import CSV file to PC Suite

3. Export contacts from PC suite as vcf files

4. Copy vcf files to SD card

5. On the phone, go to contacts - import/export then import from SD card

6. Hopefully you should now have contacts!

If you have previously had a few contacts showing it may be that these were saved to the SIM card rather than the phone at some point in the past.

This simplest "local" way of backup and restore of contacts for me was backing up using NetQin Mobile Manager. It puts all of your contacts in a csv file that you can simply import from the SD card after upgrading or re-flashing or whatever you wanna do.
