Sorry but I had to go...

I'm sorry guys, its been good while it lasted but I'm afraid I had to sell my Streak.

The battery was just pathetic. Unplugged at 8am, used sparingly during the day maybe 20 mins at most browsing and it would drain to zero and power off by 8pm. The retailer said it wasn't faulty and that this was normal so I should take it up with Dell. So it just finished on eBay £250. ;) .

I now have a Desire Z. I miss the screen size admittedly but the battery lasts over 24 hours, its overclocked to 1497mhz, hits over 2500 in quadrant, no lag, awesome keyboard and people don't point at me in the street :) Also running cyanogenmod 6.1.0 which makes a maddive difference to the overall experience.

So its pretty much goodbye from me. Thanks for the assistance and good luck with the Streak.

People pointed at you in the streets? I suspect it wasn't dell streak related ;), but seriously Ive yet to have that happen. Then again, I've got large hands so it almost looks normal sized when I am holding it. I also don't have the battery problems you did. From 7:30am, until about 11-12 at night it lasts with moderate to heavy use (if gaming a lot, then it maybe lasts till about 8pm before I need to charge). I looked at another android phone recently, but I don't want to go back to the smaller screen sizes. I think I will wait for the streak update instead.

Anyway, enjoy your new phone!

I am sorry for you too. Both my wife and my Streaks have crazily amazing battery life. It lasted my wife 2 - 3 days since she is a light user but LOVE that big screen w/ higher pixel density. For me, I am a heavy user and it will last me almost a full day depending on what I do like Johnny82. For a bright 5" LCD, the battery life is AMAZING!!!

Also, the fact that the Streak change up quickly is amazing too with normal 5v 1A charger (Car or At home), even when I am on my GPS (charge a little slower but still fast).

Could be a bad battery or unit for you. Or, some of your running apps. Oh well, it is gone now.

My Samsung EPIC (Galaxy S) was a charging nightmare...

The Streak easily outlasts my 3GS, it did on stock 1.6 Donut, and does so even more on DJ Steves 1.5.1

Maybe he will come back if the rumored dual core dell streak with a higher res comes out :)

Some people are for Streaks and some people arent. Nuff Said.

I was but after losing calls and swype issues due to the dodgy screen and then the terrible battery life and the cyanogenmod port going stale (after I donated!!) and the lag and the random reboots and the having to charge for 10 minutes before you can turn it on..... it was just one thing after the other ruining my android experience. I reluctantly switched to the Streak from my beloved G1 so when I heard about the G2 I just had to have a look.

I'm genuinely going to miss the Streak I really am. I got totally into it, writing the 'What you need to know' guide. I swear if the battery was bigger than 1500mah then I would never have looked elsewhere.

Sad to see you decide to let it go. I bought the Dell Streak solely for one reason the 5" screen. I have used several Androids before it - NexusOne ( is the best I'd say), htc Desire ( less than a month), Galaxy S ( 3 weeks), HD2 ( on Android - since Aug till now). When I bought the Streak the web reviews were not highly positive as it was on 1.6 then , but for the sake of the screen size I was prepared for a lower level of performance

I must say I did not regret it as after I got it, I sold off my last Android on hand the Galaxy S ( my worst purchase I feel)

Battery life I always prepared for it; all my smartphones I have at least minimum one extra battery. My HD2 - I have 2, my NexusOne also 2 while my previous Galaxy S and present Streak I bought 1 extra battery

More power to you and your Desire... you're right the screensize will kill you coming from the Streak but I'm sure the Desire Z is an awesome device too. BUT, with Stephen being the only ROM Developer for now, you didn't really give him the chance with Cyanogen Rom to say its "stale". His ROMs...(ROMS!!!) even in Alpha are workable such as MIUI, Cyanogen and not to mention the ever improving Froyo. As for the battery, there are supermarket batteries that is much bigger than 1500.

IMO, its too bad your Streak was a lemon.

Desire Z is a pretty good device....not so good on the screen size..I just can't see myself going back to smaller screen size anymore. Hmm i had 3g data always on and some web browsing through out the day and my battery could last my a day. About the problem you are having i m not sure if you are using the same device as me...LOL. I have a decent battery life, not lag with stephen rom(seriously fast i said) yes i do have random reboot on rare occasion. Had it with galaxy S and milestone.

The battery issue is starting to annoy me as well. I don't think i will last much longer. I have an unlocked European version with latest 318 and Steve's performance fix. I use the phone from 9:30am and around 8:00pm the battery is at 15%. I would expect for a new device to last at least 24 hours.

When there is wifi i turn of mobile data and i enable it only where there is no wifi access. GPS always closed. I use the phone moderately. Only to talk and to surf the web. No games and no videos. I believe the end user should not have to go through all this just for a phone. The phone should be able to perfectly manage it's resources on it's own. We live in difficult times with a lot of stress so having to think about turning stuff on and off on our phones is not the best thing.

I read stories in the forums about users that use the phone for 3 days or so. I find this very strange. I accept that there might be some devices with better batteries but between 3 days and 7-8 hours there's a big gap.

All this plus all the other problems people are mentioning(lag, random reboots etc.) makes it difficult to keep this phone.

If the gurus have any tricks that could improve battery performance or if you have a link of a good battery please share it with us. Help me keep that nice phone.

Androids seem sensitive to which apps you have installed. My streak is used quite a lot including some gaming, twitter and an hour of wifi tethering to my laptop during the day. It still lasts all day until bed time. SOME seemingly harmless apps can murder battery life though.

There was something seriously wrong with the battery.

Although if you used it for only 20 minutes per day, what was the point of owning it in the first place?

So you were told you had a faulty unit and then promptly sold it on eBay? Did you mention the battery life in the listing?

Thanks for the info. I ordered the 1800 one. Have you heard how much longer the battery will last?

I also suffer from poor battery. I also suffer from random reboots and freezes.

Both issues are highly annoying, I've had people call me or I've had to make important calls and the phone has frozen. But with these problems...and others... there is still no other phone with a 5" screen out there... and to be honest I really like the Streak, given it's imperfections.

The only other phone I would have at the moment is the Desire Z (which my missis has) or HD. I have handled the HD7 in a shop and it felt nothing less than amazing (to the look and touch), but I will wait till WP7 has matured slightly before I go back to Windows.

That is perfect. 2-3 hours is enough to last until 11pm.

Thanks.

sometimes I do feel tht the streaks battery lasted a bit longer....today i forgot to charge it in the morning...cud only get it till 40 odd % but the time I realised....

unfortunately got stranded in the snow.....and unfortunately had to save every single % left in my phones battery...

so finally the 40 odd % lasted 7 hrs....but had to restrict myself from playing games (though played it for around 20 mins or so),,,or even using you tube n stuff...did use maps, talked a bit and sms'ed here n there...but was seriously scared tht it wud be 0 before I reached home..

i somehow feel the the first 50% and the last 50% dont last equal intervals...anyways...note to self...always keep the streak charged to 100% before heading out...:)

U r welcome but do note the way we use our phones and also the applications installed and running , the extended time it gives might be different . I have a friend using the 4800 mAH version yet it will only last him a day . No wonder he bought 4 extra batteries from DELL :)
