Need help to resize partition tables on V9

Hello guys,

I really need your help on this.

I bought a ZTE V9 Tab, europen version with Froyo.

Stock ROM:

/dev 12KB used FS 200MM

/data 48MB free space on FS that ~ 128MB

/system seems to be ok, 50-60MB Free, but maybe this one can be reduced too

/data/media 28MB and some KBs used.

How can I resize partitions, I need help on this, I have cooked ROM ClockWorkMod Recovery and I can use ADB on device.

This is really important for me, cause APPS2SD not enought, I vant to reduce /dev to 32Mb max and add the free space to /data and if not so hard maybe can cut from the others.

Short answer, you can't. If you try to use any partitioning tools designed for the blade, then they are very likely to turn your tablet into a doorstop. My most recent version should detect that it isn't a blade & refuse to run, but if you try to use any of the other partitioning files you will break your tablet & it wont be easy to fix it.

A developer would need to get hold of a tpt style update for the v9 tab & hack it, I'm not sure if any tpt updates are available for the v9, probably not.

/dev is tmpfs, that isn't actually using any room on your internal storage, its ram (no, it's not using 200mb of ram either, just 12kb).

You want to use apps2ext instead, create an ext3 partition on your sdcard & use that to install apps to. It works better than repartitioning your internal storage anyway.

Device spec: 512MB RAM, 512MB ROM

I have got 420MB Systme Memory and all FS included tempfs = 512MB ROM, now installed 2 apps, and 1,73MB Free on Phone memory, all apps on SD what possible, but it's pretty lol.

Anyway there is Downloader app for V9. thanks for your info.

Trust me, /dev is not a real partition, you don't really have 200mb free there & it can't be used for anything else. If it's anything like the blade, then about 50mb of that 512mb rom will be hidden & used for the radio firmware, you will have a 42mb /cache partition, about 200mb for system & about 200mb for data, it all adds up to 512mb, but you can't use a lot of it. in theory the free space on system & cache could be added to /data, but there isn't really much point.

It might be possible to hack the downloader app files, if you have an appsboot.mbn & partition_zte.mbn for the v9, then those files need to be opened in a hex editor & the partition tables need to be edited in hex. If you've never used a hex editor before, then don't attempt it, it is easy to mess up.

Get an apps2ext app & repartition your sdcard to give it a (512mb or 1gb) ext3 partition instead, then part of your sdcard will behave as if it is internal memory. It is a much better option than repartitioning the internal rom, easier, faster, more space & less risky. I use simple2ext, but I think that is just for cyanogenmod, there are different versions that should work on other roms.

You could try the darktremor version on the market (i've not tried it myself, but it seems popular), if your rom doesn't already have any apps2ext scripts included. Backup everything on your sd card first.

Move2SD Enabler is another option, that will let you use the normal apps2sd with any app, just don't try it with widgets or apps that need root.

No permanent root possible on my V9 yet, so I have to find a way to root it first, thanks for many informations. I checked the filesystems and you was right, 155MB for system and 155MB for data more ~150-200 to radio, media, etc

no permanent root :D surely you can fix that if you can get root temporarily. are there no custom roms for the v9 tablet?

Only this one comes with froyo 2.2 officially, I dumped, created cooked ROM with kitchen, added root, busybox, etc but superuser not popup, when root required app starting :S

These tested too:

Universal Androoot 1.6.1,1.6.2.b5 and b6

z4root 1.3.0, 1.3.0

SuperOneClick with all possible method - Do root till reboot like z4 temp root :S

Maybe can fix, but I dunno what is the full root method, and why not work after reboot.
