Not looking good for vega as far as an Official honeycomb update is concerned.

Android 2.X Tablets Miss Honeycomb Party

Another interesting tidbit of information from Muratazin's report could be bad news for owners of Android 2.X tablets like the original Samsung Galaxy Tab. Apparently Google's licensing agreement with manufacturers specifically prevents them from upgrading the smartphone-oriented Android 2.X to tablet-optimized Android 3.0 Honeycomb.

If true, the rumor of the Android 2.X tablets not being able to upgrade to Honeycomb could also affect some other tablets expected later this year on the market. One notable example is the HTC Evo 4G (the stateside version of the HTC Flyer), which HTC said it will come with the Sense interface, on top of Android 2.3. But it is yet to be seen whether it will receive at some point an update to Honeycomb or not.

Please, please, please, use one of the existing threads for updates. There must be half a dozen Honeycomb on Vega threads now, makes it really hard to keep up with everything.

Thanks

Before we switch back to the other topic, remember that the Vega was not licensed by Google to use 2.x which means they could be considered for a fresh licence for 3.0, however its all down to the OEM, Shuttle.

One way or another my guess is that HC will appear on this tablet. Wishing it's by the manufacturer but otherwise I'm guessing some end users will be up to the task as well...

I'm writing this with a smile on my face - no disrespect intended.

If you create a new thread, it goes to the top of the list for all to see. If you reply to an existing thread, it goes to the top of the list for all to see.

Someone who doesn't know what Honeycomb is and/or couldn't care less will ignore it. Someone who is interested will open the existing thread, as an area of interest, and read the new response.

The only thing a new thread on an existing topic does is clutter up the forum and make it harder to follow topics of interest.

Cheers

While your point about cluttering is valid, I must say that I royally hate scouring a billion posts in a thread for singular updates on something.

If it's new news, I think it's valid to post a new thread - that way, the actual news is disseminated effectively, rather than people having to wade through pages of discussion just to find a single post with an update.

If threads could be split effectively into 'subthreads', it would be easier to filter out discussion to access the posts that caused all the ruckus. :D

First off take that little story with a BIG pinch of salt.

The origional story allegedly came from a guy called "Eldar Murtazin" at mobile-review.com.

Just read any one of his 'reviews' and its pretty obvious he's an serious apple fanboy. In his 'reviews' he frequently gloss's over certain facts and distorts others to try and make the I-Pad sound better than any Android tablet.

Basic features of Honeycomb are comparable with iOS when Apple iPad was launched. On the other hand iOS has thousands of apps unavailable for Honeycomb. The absence of software is a downside for related tablets. New apps are appearing, but they are scarce and in the coming year their number will not be sufficient for Android 3.0. It is the main disadvantage of the OS now. The system is simple and easy to use, but it does not offer anything special.

Ohhhh if only there was a market for apps for android.. oh hang on, wait a mo.. there's the google market (plus several others), and android tablets have flash built into the browser so they dont need an app for everything unlike the i-pad.

Also, what about the thousands of apps that are available for android that aren't available for iOS?

In day-to-day operations this tablet can be compared with the first version of Apple iPad and we cannot notice any performance advantage. The interface of iPad is faster than the product from Motorola.

Unfortunately, the capabilities of processors and graphic modules are used only by games created for Tegra2. There are two such games for Xoom, but they do not impress much.

I guess he didnt try playing HD video then, or playing any games.. or actually using the tablet at all..

I also assume he has never heard of the Nvidia Tegra Zone from his comment about there only being 2 games for android tablets.

And then he even contradicts himself within the same review showing how desperate he is to put Android down.

I cannot recall any other device that was released on the market so hastily – at any cost. In the beginning, Motorola set the sales to late February but after the iPad2 announcement the date was unprecedentedly expedited. Well, naturally, it does not really matter when you release a raw device with an unready operating system – sooner or later – all the growing pains will still be there.

Why do you think Samsung did not risk releasing their tablet as early as March despite the fact that they had everything necessary to do so? Because the company believes that Honeycomb will not be any good before June 2011

Now thats just a little sample of one of his 'reviews', so personally I'm not going to believe anything this guys say's... and whats more I can't even find where he apparently said that 2.2 tablets wont upgrade to 3.0, if anyone has a link it'd be cool to see it.

I suspect however that even if he did say this it won't be based on anything solid.

Seems like he is just another extension of the apple marketing machine.

No it`s apple fan boys which give apple a pass on everything and marks down everything else for any silly reason.

can you not port it from the sdk, like the nook color and the galaxy tab, plus the versions on the n1 desire?

Wow. This is about the only time I could ever be happy to hear that a piece of Android news had originated from an Apple fan.

vega may miss the honey party but if the smartsurfer (mentioned in several other threads) gets it as the seller here advises then this should be a very easy port, very easy indeed.

http://www.tabletstoreuk.com/smartbook-sur...ready-p-76.html

They are selling this as honey pretty much guaranteed, they may not be reputable though.

EDIT: I have mailed the company to find out if they either know something we dont or are willing to provide a money back guarantee it gets Honey - and if so how.
