Root before Recovery?

Hi all, noob question here, i take it you have to root before flashing the recovery?

Install clockworkmod. Run a backup. Copy backup from sdcard to PC just in case. Check baseband version. Upgrade if necessary. Download and install MCR. Done. :D

flash clockwork and then a new rom :D

no root if you install the recovery using fastboot (i.e command prompts from a pc)

root if you install the recovery using rom manager or recovery manager etc....

Hi,

Got a question. i suppose baseband isn't part of ROM right? (i.e. if we upgraded the baseband, then, if we restore CWM backup or do NVflash, the baseband won't be rolled back)

In that case, is there any way to revert back to stock baseband? or is that not really a concern (warranty issue, etc)?

The new baseband is a 'stock' baseband, but unfortunately we don't have the 'old' baseband to flash back. Yet.
