I assure all of you I have tried a few steps, but I think the mass of how too's may some what confuse me.
Very new, infact very brand new to android, before that Iphone was my thing.

Right I brought a Dell Streak, second hand got it today! Put in my sim started her up all ok. Changed the usual settings, ring tone, text tone. Then checked for updates through settings.

So it loads a browser and tried connecting to some strange site zang something?

Then the phone reboots and sticks on the dell screen and thats where it stays.

Did noticed the "firmware" said 2.1, I was told that the phone was 2.2 but obviously not.

I have tried a couple of "restore to factory" things from various forums and net, with Update.pkg but each time it boots to dell and freezes again or just goes black.

Have done this

"HOW TO RESTORE YOUR STREAK BACK TO FACTORY CONDITION:
1. Download the stock recovery ROM here and the stock official Dell ROM here.
2. Rename the stock official Dell ROM 'Update.pkg' and put it in the root directory on your SD card.
3. Boot Streak in fastboot mode (hold camera button when turning on), press 'Fastboot Mode' button, wait 10 seconds then connect to your PC (must have Dell PC suite installed).
4. Open a command prompt, navigate to the folder where your 'fastboot-windows.exe' is stored.
5. Type 'fastboot-windows.exe -i 0x413c flash recovery c:\recovery.stock.img' . Make sure the .img file is in c:\ directory. The program will now update the recovery image on your Streak.
6. Once the phone reads 'Recovery Done', remove the battery and insert it again.
7. Boot Streak in Recovery mode (hold down vol up and vol down when turning on) and select option 2.
5. Wait till it installs and itll boot into Android....DONE! "

Are the roms to old for me as it failed?

might be best for you to try the qdl tool

basically if you can get it installed on your computer it will do all of the work

check out www.streakdroid.com

click on guides, ignore the first part about installing streakdroid and follow the guides

this should get your phone back to a stock status, then check for updates but only download them from dells official website.

as of now 2.2 is the official stock release and depending on what carrier you have there could be newer updates such as 2.2.2

Thought it might be an internal SD problem, so now also changed that.

QDL success...

BRICKED!!

I am starting to think this is a dead weight

Lol ive got my streak back from worse...

where did you get the rom from? link it here

You said it was on 2.1 and not 2.2, did you no notice the lack stage UI?

Also

5. Type 'fastboot-windows.exe -i 0x413c flash recovery c:\recovery.stock.img' . Make sure the .img file is in c:\ directory. The program will now update the recovery image on your Streak.

I thought it went:
Fastboot mode phone
CMD type c:\streak (thats what it is for me)
CMD type fastboot
CMD fastboot –i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.stock.img

but im not sure
