I was once in your position, I purchased my Vega to bassically use for internet and intertainment for me while her indoors reads books etc. I soon came to the conclusion that even the latest rom 1.09 is very basic, if you just want to brouse the internet, and look at photos then it fine.

I soon realised there is a field of apps out there, known as APK's these are easy to install from a place called the market, this is not available on the standard rom, this forum is fantastic, the knowledge of these guys is unbelievable most of the time, if you want your tablet to do something strange you can bet someone has done it ...lol

After testing different roms for a while now some are quicker, some are more user friendly , i find the best for me is Fuji-Vega Modded Rom based on Modaco Rom v0.6 - Fast and Smooth (19/04/2011, this is also on XDA developers, its super quick and worthy of a look.

All I can say really is not to worry about breaking it, i have always got out of a mess reading info from here and XDA, but you must be prepared to read lots, then it all makes sense in the end.

have fun, this little beasty is pure entertainment and in my opinion far better than the ipad for tons of extras at low cost.

Hi there,

there is one way to really pimp your Vega!

The Stock ROM from the Smartbook Surfer 360 works on the Vega like a charm. You can download it from smartbook.de, then follow the instructions from myadventvega.co.uk how to install it.

Comes with Flash 10.1 (which can be updated to 10.2), does have an app store built in, but installing Google's Market works the same way as with the Vega Stock ROM. It has a sexy 3D user interface, everything works as it should (though Smartsurfer use the power button as a home button and the USB port to connect USB hard disks to the tablet, not to connect it to a PC).

And BEST OF ALL - we all have to suffer with the weird "double press issue" on the Vega, which makes typing awkward and scrolling near impossible. Not with the ROM for the Smartbook surfer 360. It improves the touchscreen 100% (it actually makes it usable!!). I am positive Honeycomb will also work as soon as Smartbook release it, I sure will give it a go.

I like my Vega, just didn't like Advent's software port. Now I can have the best of both!! (Currently the ROM is Android 2.2.1)

sounds exciting but the double press issue seems to only exist on original pre xmas vegas and all the new roms have sorted it sinde, i have never had this problem. So what does it offer apart from the 3d interface? do you have screenshots

I must have one of the evil Vega's then, everytime I wanted to scroll somewhere my Vega decided I clicked, so it opened whatever I apparently had clicked on. Now I can scroll properly.

The main difference to the Vega ROM is that the power button acts as a hardware home button (just like the iPad uses), usefull since the software home button isn't always on the screen, resulting in having to hit the back button as long as it takes to get back home. I also like the idea that I can stick in a USB stick and play music and videos from there. Have not yet tried a USB hard disk, but I am sure that will work too.

No update to Honecomb as it is still Andreoid 2.2.1 (which I believe is 0.0.1 point newer than the Vega ROM).

But the main difference stays: It looks cool!! The Vega UI looks very basic, this one looks better than the iPad one. (But we still need to wait for some real good games for Android. My favourite one so far is still TurboFly 3D...)

If it lets me I will try to add 2 screen shots (don't mock the quality, it's kinda late...)

Thanks for that but i think that was looked at quite a while ago and most dismissed it then because the dock items couldnt be altered , is this still the case? personally i think the corvus5 rom is as close to perfect as you can get for speed , so far the only rom to overclock to 1.4 ghz , smoothness and user friendliness. Couple that with vtl launcher and button saviour ( so you can access a home button from within any running apk or screen ) and perfection :)

Yep, dock is locked, but that doesn't bother me. I am not Linux (or Android) experienced enough to try to fix the many things that weren't working too well or randomly crashed when I tried most of the custom ROMs. For an average end-user like me the stock ROMs make life a lot easier. So I ended up back with the stock Vega ROM, coupled with the inferior touch-screen with it's issues (which by the way none of the custom ROMs based on the stock ROM fixed for me).

I am not sure I would want to overclock my Vega, I don't want it to explode or melt in my hands. And there aren't any games yet that don't run on the Vega due to speed issues...

I am sure I could stick ADWLauncher on top of this ROM if I ever get sick of the 3D screen, but for now it's ok, and I am enjoying being able to type without double characters and scroll when I want to.

Not sure if button saviour would let you exit a game by pressing a home button, can't see it stick a home button on my Angry Birds screen. (Hence me liking the hardware button I am used to from my iPad. Press the button and the tablet goes back to the home screen...)

I am sure there are others like me, noobs who want a touch screen that just works (still only 2 touchpoints though) and a UI that doesn't look as cheap as Android usually does,

Do we? I don't have double tap issues and the screen is perfectly usable. That's on 3 Vegas, 2 running MCR and one running Corvus 5. I've just put this ROM on and can't see any difference. That launcher sucks as well. Zero customisability. Looks pretty for about 30 seconds then gets really annoying.

I can't see any advantages to this ROM at all, far less functional than the ones available here and with no change logs to speak about, difficult to know what, if anything, they've fixed in the kernel.

I think you're missing the point :). The locked dock has nothing to do with fixing anything. How do you add shortcuts to your most used applications? It's not about fixing, simply making it usable.

With respect, I think you've got it the wrong way around. The Surfer is a better machine with a good ROM like Corvus on!

download corvus5 zip to sd card, Then make sure you have clockwork mod installed ( you will only have this if you have downloaded it yourself ) if you havent then use vega tools to install it.Click recovery apk from modaco rom in app drawer, and vega will boot to clockwork mod.

now before you do anything click backup/restore and do a complete backup ( takes a while but is soooo necessary for later screw ups :) )

now in no particular order, wipe date/factory settings, clear cache and then under advanced option clear dalvik cache. This will clean the system ready for the new rom.

next go to install zip from sd card and select the corvus5 rom ( it will be where you downloaded it to, normally downloads ) the system will now install the rom and eventually ( couple of minutes tops ) go back to reboot option.

click reboot and away it goes new rom installed! Oh and just to clarify even more you move around the clockwork mod menu with the volume keys and select anything with the power on off key.

have fun :)

you shouldn`t have had to update a new vega it should have come with 1.09 as a minimum? However for auto rotation check you have the switch next to power not locked , market doesn`t come with the vega it is not officially supported but search in this forum and you will find a stand alone version if you dont want to switch roms to one of the market inclusive ones and i believe until you have set up your google account ( once you have installed market ) you cant sync to it? so that would solve your sync issue

easiest custom rom (no frills jus simple market and basic stuff)

------------------------------------------------------------------------

install this to get market and basic stuff running its super easy just have to put it in software update folder and then run from inside settings (there is a software update option there)

O_G_Rom_Add-OnV3-1.zip

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931337

modaco custom rom (cool)

---------------------------------------------------------

if u want to further pimp it up read up on how to install modaco (download link is for the prebake version and its a lil obscure to find sorta at the bottom of the very first post)

http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v...online-kitchen/

its a little complicated to install but there is this guide on how to do it

http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v...-driver-guides/

corvus5 custom rom (l33t mans custom rom haha)

----------------------------------------------------------

then if u want to get the most popular best fastest custom rom download corvus5 and put it sumwhere on ur sdcard

corvus5.zip

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1043506

then get clockworkmod (CWM) installed (if you havent then use vega tools to install it http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v...ega-tools-v3-0/ ), it should show up as just Recovery in ur apps drawer, run it, it will reboot into cwm now before you do anything click backup/restore and do a complete backup ( takes a while but is soooo necessary for later screw ups smile.gif )

now in no particular order, wipe date/factory settings, clear cache and then under advanced option clear dalvik cache. This will clean the system ready for the new rom.

phew !!! remember to take regular breaks or u will lose ur marbles loool !!!

sorry not had this problem tinners, so forget this for the moment, lets get the market installed and perhaps try a different rom, like others i use corvus5 rom it is stable enough and smoother than stock.

once you have market on the vega it will take you through the sign in or create process and i am pretty sure this will cure your add an account problem.

did you sort the screen rotation ?
