Recovery Manager Hanging

Hi. I'm a newbie and my head is spinning from trying to find answers to the problem I've run into. So please be gentle :D

I've got a new Blade. It's a version 1. Build number OU_P729BV1.0.0B10. Firmware 2.1 Update1. Baseband version P729BB01 Kernel Version 2.6.29.

I rooted the device using Universal Androot 1.6.1, selecting the default Superuser for Android 2.0-2.2. All went smoothly until the next bit. I downloaded the latest of the Recovery Manager and updated the database. Then when I hit Recovery Install, it hung on me. The dialogue box comes up to be sure and the cancel button works but it's not doing anything.

I've done the things suggested such as re-rooting the phone, clearing out the cache, uninstalling the application. No luck. It's still hanging.

So I went to try the USB method. I've got a Laptop running Windows 7 and it installed the drivers so quickly that I couldn't stop the wizard as per the instructions. The phone's SD card shows up as a storage device but that's all. When I go into the Manage section of My Computer, the phone itself isn't showing up.

That's where I'm at now and I'm confused and disappointed. Was so looking forward to getting this phone. I don't live in the UK and had to get a friend of a friend to buy one for me. If anyone can help me at all, I'll be eternally grateful.
