The Andypad is coming!

Teased on http://www.andypad.co.uk, there's not much given away about the tablet aside from the fact that it's coming in 83 days or so and originates from my part of the world (Norwich, Norfolk, UK)... but i'm pleased to say that we have an exclusive teaser pic of the device, some early details and I will also be meeting the Andypad team next week to talk about their baby. ;)

The Andypad is an Android based 7" Tablet primarily aimed at the 'younger generation'. A key differentiator of the product is going to be the price... the current raft of tablets definitely lean to the high end! It's packing a half decent processor and can play HD video as well as 3D games. It has HDMI out. It will come preloaded with some top tier titles for the target market.

That's it for official information... if I were a betting man i'd say it's running Gingerbread rather than Honeycomb (since it has hardware buttons in the image below). The ports in the picture look like HDMI and microUSB, with a microSD slot and another unidentified connector? The screen looks to be set back slightly in the case. I would also guess that this might not be 100% final hardware with the launch still 80+ days away. :P

Edit: After having a look at AndyPad.co.uk's META tags I can see that it will indeed be a Gingerbread / 2.3 tablet!

I'll post more info as I get it. Watch this space! :D

Some additional info from here...

Leading UK bed and mattress specialist Mattressman has announced today that its MD, Andrew Kerry will be broadening his empire to incorporate the technology market with a new Android tablet named the ‘Andy Pad’.

The successful entrepreneur, who turns over £16 M each year, founded his company Mattressman in 1999 when there were currently no online mattress specialists. The gap in the market led the way for a string of successful websites and in the successive years, the predominantly online company has opened a chain of stores across the country.

A fan of gadgets since childhood, Andrew has always been interested in the technology market. Armed with a dedicated team of enthusiastic staff with a similar passion for all things geeky, the idea of breaking into the world of technology, specifically the tablet market, was formed.

"Android is such a liberal platform" said Mr. Kerry "with thousands of app developers working every day on new and exciting projects, there's a whole world of interesting possibilities for consumers, just waiting to be explored".

"You can do almost anything on Android, so the natural progression for me was to look at what was currently on offer in the tablet market and see what was missing".

Mattressman claims that the Andy Pad is not named after its creator, rather taking its prefix from the start of the word ‘Android’.

The Andy Pad, will be unique in the world of Google tablets in that it will come pre-installed with a variety of the most popular apps. All the apps bundled with the Andy Pad will be free allowing you to check your favourite social network or play the latest games straight out of the box.

It's a pretty interesting quote, as what's NOT missing in the market is cheap tablets. Cheap GOOD tablets yeah, but there's a ton of cheap crappy ones out there. ;)
