I'm having many problems ith my blade and I feel the need to upgrade. From the specs of the phone, things look good. Well I can confirm one thing that we Sweds had problem with our ROM, the B133. The wifi was losing too much connection however B136 solves that problem and works quite well. If you dislike sluggish shuttering from time to time of active use, B160 @XDA they have added much fixes and improvments that eases the usage of the phone. Well with choppy if you move around recording smoothly it will not be choppy. However fast movements with the camera while recording will make it look choppy. Guest That-Guy Posted June 11, 2011 Report Share Posted June 11, 2011 Currently using the latest B136 International Firmware along with Paul's Super boot and not getting any problems at all now ;) As for video recording, fast movements can be slightly choppy with fast movements (not very noticeable) but you have to remember and 720p resolution the video is still amazing compared to the blade (that was my previous phone). The U8800 is very customisable, the only thing missing is a fully working 2.3 ROM (sure it will follow) but that said 2.2.1 on the B136 firmware is VERY stable! Upgrading from my blade is the best thing I ever did, the build quality is sooooo much better too! Guest Dr_Ash Posted June 11, 2011 Report Share Posted June 11, 2011 In terms of the "smoothness" of the interface, I find this to be VERY launcher dependent. I always find the stock launcher choppy. I am currently using ADWLauncher Ex and find it VERY smooth, almost iPhone smooth. With the CPU clocked anything > 1ghz it gets silky, especially up at 1.5ghz which is what I currently have it clocked at. Awesome phone, could do with a little more Dev support, it's not a big brand so the community is never going to be massive, but hopefully it will grow a little bit. Yes, the blade used to struggle on complex angry birds levels but no problems on the U8800. Haven't had a game that struggles yet. From what I read it looks like a great phone to upgrade to. I'm 100% sure if buying one yet because I've never heard of the brand name Huawei before but I said before I went out to buy the Blade & that turned out be a great phone. Anyway I just thought I ask will there be a full review of the phone posted on this forum in the future (Paul's great review of the Blade made me go out & one ;) )?? BTW I also wanted to know is does the U8800 preinstalled UI run ok? If I do buy this phone I might keep it as it is for a while because if I change anything it might affect the warranty!! Welcome to the Ideos X5 section, well I used to own a ZTE as I lost my, I planned on upgrading as the Ideos X5 was in a quite similar price range here in Sweden. From what I can say the Ideos X5 is a great phone and works well. You got a partition that works as boot and recovery of stock rom, and you can easily backup it and upgrade the firmware with official firmwares such as B136(the current international rom) and B160(the current asian rom). The stock rom works quite well depending from where you live. My stock rom was B133. It had some minor problems such as losing wifi connection and disorted camera view. After the applying the B160 rom I never seen any slowdowns. Back to the stock UI it works pretty well isn't sluggish at all. Also the changes you do with the phone will not affect the warranty as its pretty much open for customization. Anyways it is really worth the dosh ! Huawei are actually well know for making USB Broadband Dongles and I think the T-Mobile Pulse! The build quality is amazing compared to the Blade :P It will probably come with Firmware B133 and can be updated to the B136 Firmware no problems (which I use) once updated its very stable! I'll might be buying a new phone later in the summer, it'll be a toss-up between this & the ZTE Skate. The main thing I like about the ZTE Skate is the bigger screen but the processor isn't as good as the U8800. I think the Skate I'll most likely be pay as you go where with U8800 it's sim free I'll can just pop in my Giffgaff sim & go!! :P Anyway I'll keep checking out this section from time to time to see what other people say about the U8800 & news of any new upgrades/themes developments for the phone!! It's the very best phone for the price, I haven't overclocked it or anything yet, but if you do the ROM upgrade you seem to lose a lot of stuff.(not too sure what though) The only thing I have done is add the music app from gingerbread or is it the honeycomb) and the stormy live wallpaper. I'm going to buy another for my daughter, since she's trashed the SF. All I need to do is find a fast cheap 32Gb SD card to replace my current 16GB. I will give my opinion. The Huawei U8800, have great value in it. Firstly they have added 2nd generation of scorpion CPU, the same as in Desire Z. Next up they added the Adreno 205, which houses on a Desire HD. Thus giving it the google experience, 720p recording and playback plus flash 10.1(You can use 10.3 works flawless). You get a 3.8 inch capacitive screen with multi-touch functions(2 fingers is what the digitizer can handle), allowing pinch to zoom functions and etc.The screen is unfortunately not coated with anti-fat resistance, thus will be somewhat greasy after usage but not a problem. The screen is using a high end LCD screen, not SLCD but still better than most at the same price range. The screen has a resolution of 480x800 thus is called WVGA. The Phone has 4 capacitive buttons, starting from left return,menu,home,search button. The buttons have fair response and they have back lighten them thus allowing you to see the buttons in dark places. The stock rom in-depending of land area, have a great stability it comes with vanilla(clean - fairly) Froyo - 2.2.1. There are some minor problems such as wifi-connection/blackscreen/freezes/shuttering; however don't let these be the biases for the decision. As Huawei allows their user to manually upgrade firmware and recover old ones easily you have full control of always getting the best out of your phone... As for gaming, most people are only concerned about getting Angry birds working... But I can confirm to you guys you can play the most modern games for android and emulators, Snes, Genesis, gameboy and n64 all of those works flawlessly with the Huawei U8800. Lastly the battery time, I have been trying out, my stock rom B133 have been running actively with 100% brightness and wifi on plus 3G and browsing, listening music, it holds up for a straight 7 hours before crying for a recharge. But while being nice to it and having am moderate usage it can last for 2 days before a needed recharge. Over the last couple of months I've looking at phones between £150-£200 price range ie the HTC Wildfire S, Samsung Galaxy Ace & when I looked up the specs I found out they were more or less the same as what I already own. With the Huawei U8800 it seems that its a great phone to upgrade to even though its not a well known brand!! Yep well worth it! You thinking of purchasing? You just answered my questions, it sounds like a great phone to upgrade to. Since I brought my SF I've been using it for more than just making calls & texting it's become a multi media device.
