G'day,

At some point, my camera has buggered up. When you load the camera app the preview section displays upside down. The colours are also off, with red displaying as blue and the like.

Has anyone experienced this before?

Running B136, Pauls kernel (2.6.32.9-perf, right?), Clockwork Recovery

Things I have tried: Rebooting, multiple camera apps (all do the same thing).

Things I havent tried: Factory reset, stock firmware. If noone has heard of this happening, this will be my next step.

Isn't the sky normally red?

There is a problem in your camera libs. You need to copy the 2 files included in this zip to /system/lib/ (You can use root explorer or ADB).

Had same problem when I used B136, what I did was getting B160 and everything just worked !

Interesting. I'll have to look into this and find out exactly what causes your camera to have incorrect colours on B136.

Not had this problem yet, but looks like it could be quite fun

Won't be a kernel issue. More than likely it'll be the camera app itself or the camera libs. Interesting though.. I wonder if some of the phones have different camera hardware.

Well, it must be somehow related to the kernel since camera libs don't change themselves. If it was fine before he applied superboot and broken after then it must be in the kernel since that is all that changes (other than the ramdisk). But as I said before this was a problem with the B160 on XDA but it was fixed by using the camera libs that I included in my above post.

To be fair, I dont know if it was any of the software modifications that caused it specifically. Last time I used the camera was on a stock ROM, a fair bit of time passed, then I installed assorted recoveries and kernels, and then the camera was buggered. There were many apps installed - including screenshot apps - in between that period as I'd already used z4root many moons ago.

I'll try those libs you linked to and see what I find If I break it, its just a good excuse to flash again

That fixed it.

Downloaded your link to phone and extracted. Copy with Root Explorer, navigate to correct directory, mount R/W, rename old files to '.backup', paste files, change permissions to match the rest of the files in there and reboot.

Hm. checked those libs and libcamera.so is identical to the file in B136. The only different file is liboemcamera.so so that is probably all that is needed to fix things.

Which rom have these files come from?

Hi guys,
After having this phone for 3 months or so and having been reading every thread about the phone since I got it I decided to try out Pauls superboot.

Just to add some confirmation of this phenomenon I too decided to try Paul's superboot and it worked perfectly..... and then I tried to use the camera.  I had exactly the same thing happen.  Photo inverted and colours all wrong, everything very blue. Pic attached (I hope)
Just to confirm the circumstances I had the phone stock and never rooted until today with the superboot.  Started here in Australia with B133 and upgraded to B136 with the update facility in the phone all was working well for over 3 months and immediately after doing the superboot today the camera turned out with this issue.
I will try and swap those libs and see how it goes.
Just wondering how wide spread this is as well.  Did anyone ever conclude why this actually occurs?

Hi try to remove Paul's superboot and put back the original one ...it should "repair" camera!

You can always use this ROM: FLB Custom ROM for the U8800

Has the Correct Libs and comes rooted

The problem seems to be with the kernel source that Huawei released. Obviously it's only meant for the unbranded global U8800 which most people have. Some overseas devices seem to have slightly different camera hardware which has the above issues on any rom using a custom kernel (superboot uses a custom kernel).

There is a replacement liboemcamera.so that came with the Chinese B160 ROM which sorts this issue out. I've popped it into the FLB rom and it works fine for people.

Just got back home and a chance to check this out.
After my last post I decided to pop in the 160 libs as described above and as noted by @trk it worked well and all is going well at the moment for the camera and can't seem to fault anything at all really at this stage.
Gotta say I am really impressed with the phone and love following what you guys do with it.  Quite entertaining just reading all the posts and detail that has gone through these forums over the last few months.

It does. I'm using a TMN (Portuguese operator) custom rom boot.img Now I must choose between overclock and a properly functioning camera...

install a custom rom (like void) and get that fixed there is other way though
