Why keep locking topics

The only real loosers out of this situation are the members , who do not have the knowledge to write roms but rely on others good will to help them with there hobby. I cant help but think that if the posts had been monitored and edited if necassery that this situation would not have happened. The idea of the forum is to help each other not get personal towards each other. Locking topics so that only a few have a say also does not help. This is just my opion and is not aimed at ant person

With thanks

I agree, they should start banning people who keep making these topics.

GSF will be dead in less than a month when the new 2.3.4 build is out, and new devs will come through as per usual.

None of the devs from last year are here, apart from flibblesan who is now a mod.

Without commenting on the events which caused all this argument, I will only say that locking topics where people are having a polite (if passionate) disagreement is not in anyone's interest. It only makes more people angry and frustrated, and there is no harm in people voicing their opinion. At this point all the regulars will have noticed what has happened, so its not as though we can all pretend it didn't happen.

Be that as it may, this is not the correct part of the forum to do that in.

No, this is the correct forum to do that in. This is the forum where the events occurred and it is irrelevant to everyone outside this forum. This is the forum where the consequences of the bans will be felt, in the loss of development for 3 ROMs (this is the Blade ROMs subforum)

In my opinion lockign the topics only going to make people create more, at least leave one to people discuss whats happening, just my opinion but i thinks its necessary when someone destroyed the actual blade rom community, and its normal people wanting to discuss. The forum is have rules i agree even so a little of discussion is part of a forum and i think the rules allow that, this is not North Korea i think...

GSF would of been replaced with the offical build within a month, the other roms are based from that, and really don't offer much.

There are people on this site still that are more than capable of making a rom, but decided against it due to the fact they would of been based on the same source. People are only whiny because it affects them, if they were normal users nobody would batter an eyelid. Devs are not above rules, and should be dealt with like 'common' users. This forum is for discussing issues with custom roms, not about who is above the law. The main ZTE blade forum would be more suitable, but I can see your point about being in here.

On a positive note, this whole affair has really put the new reputation feature to good use!

You mean the plus and minus to the posts?

They are for the posts only, nice feature but pointless.

I wouldn't say they are useless - people press a button instead of wasting a whole lot of screenspace just to say +1.

Yeah it's not the end of the world or anything and there are plenty of people around who can keep making ROMs, but we did just lose development for a few (albeit based on one) that apparently were very good, and the official build hasn't arrived yet, so we can't be sure of when it will and/or how much better or worse it will be. I agree also that dev's are not above the law, but it wasn't only devs who got banned. Its hard to justify banning a guy with 4 posts for saying dicks. And whilst wbaw is not the most polite person I know, he did make a great deal of useful contributions to this forum, so whether its right or wrong, having him banned is a pity.

It is a pity, but they were warned. We won't know the whole story, for all we know the guy with 4 posts may be an alt account for someone who was banned. However, what is done is done, and there will be no reverse to that.

The like system is great for threads talking about fixes, so you can skim until you find a decent answer. These topics will soon be locked though.

What you end up with, if you allow the debate to continue, is members that had nothing to do with it fighting with each other over an argument between 2 people. It's natural to take one side or the other of an argument and if that argument degenerates into something serious you end up banning a lot of people. You end up causing less trouble stopping anything inflammatory early on and encouraging people to get back to the topic of the forum - together rather than split in 2 camps.

And seriously, whether you agree with them or not, try telling me with a straight face that some of these locked posts aren't inflammatory. This post is different - this one is far more reasonable. Well done OP. Still, don't be surprised if it gets locked as off topic. And most forums won't allow you to publicly question mods.

With the way people feel they can act behind the anonymity of the internet you have to take a fairly hard line with the rules or the whole thing goes to hell. You basically need a my house my rules approach. And for anyone that wants to moan about free speech - forum hosting costs. :P

I agree that it's a shame, but they were warned. We won't be able to see the full side of the story since the posts have been deleted, the guy with 4 posts may of had the same

Wbaw was warned, but the guy with 4 posts wasn't and the other two were banned for no other reason than disagreeing with Lancez.

In all seriousness, he may be the worst moderator in the history of the Internet, ever.

But having said that, this is a good board for new OSF users looking for help, advice and custom roms, and hopefully it'll remain that.

If you all find this so offensive then don't worry I'll remove it but I was merely suggesting that he take his problems up with Paul which is a perfectly reasonable suggestion.

@targetsbp

I agree to an extent. Still I think there needs to be a reasonable amount of leeway otherwise people will feel like they can't speak honestly. People do post inflammatory stuff but it is possible to ignore it and respond to stuff that matters. If we closed all threads with inflammatory posts there wouldn't be much of a forum left!

I think all people ask is to be able to express their point of view within the context of the rules, which seems fair to me. The reason we keep seeing off-topic threads is that the moderator closes threads in the middle of a discussion (but not before making his final points of course, to which nobody is able to respond) In many ways a forum like this is largely able to moderate itself, and I've witnessed this here time and time again. Most everybody have shown themselves to be reasonable people, and if a poster comes in with a bad or disrespectful attitude, he gets called out for it by other members and realises pretty quickly that he'd best alter his approach if he wants to be taken seriously and engage in the discussions. Random, unjustified bannings are more likely to generate dissent and give life to continued "hey, this is what I think" type threads.
