Updated Android Market!

My two biggest gripes with Android Market just got fixed.

I've lost track of the number of times my phone has chosen the single 10 minute window in the day when I've not been on WiFi to download and install a swathe of updates. Aside from chewing through battery the data use can be significant, more than once I've found myself sailing past my cap and spending the end of the month throttled. :(

Rolling out as part of version 3.3.11, two new options have been added to Market settings - to Auto-update apps (presumably only those which don't require manual update) and Update over Wi-Fi only. Hurrah!

Other changes include the option to automatically place shortcuts for applications (matching the behavior already seen on Honeycomb), an updated icon (pictured to the right), a new display for overall ratings and the inclusion of Voice Search within Market.

The update is apparently rolling out to some devices, if you're interested in getting your hands on it sooner AndroidCommunity have the apk at the link below (usual caveats apply).

Screenshots of all the tweaks are available after the break :D

  • New update options

  • Market Version

  • Voice search added

  • New rating view
