Create AccountI currently have a ZTE Blade, and have just bought an Optimus 2x, so am doing some reading to get myself up to speed (custom ROMs, bugs, tweaks, etc.). I think I understand what the RIL and baseband both are, what is confusing me is why people seem to want to change them, and this only seems to be the case for a few LG phones?

Among tings some tweaks f.ex needs certain ril or bb. It affects soundquality etc. I am a noob to so others may have to complete your question;-)

Every 2G/3G/4G network can be configured differently by their providers and it's about adapting your LGphone to the given network.
(for other rooted phones the folks speak about "flashing a radio" instead of RILs and basebands but it's basically the same process/idea)
