Guest matt` Posted January 7, 2012 Report Share Posted January 7, 2012 I have a Acer Liquid Metal on 2.3.6. I have a custom ROM T&L. It came preinstalled with Link2SD. I like to try lots of apps and this problem seems to be haunting me. I reset my phone on the 26th Dec as it was so annoying. I think I have set up Link2SD correctly. I have a 4gb SD with 1gb as ext2. I have had to remove some app's but the internal storage always gets lower. Have I set Link2SD up correctly? How can I resolve this problem? If you need anything further please let me know. Can I not force the cache to go onto the ext2? Considering reflashing with another ROM and trying A2SD instead but its hassle! I don't know if L2SD will create links between /system and the second SD card partition, but you could give it a go.... If it works, that could essentially double your space for L2SD links. Looking through the list doesn't look like I could remove any of those, just over 50 of them. Not sure what you mean by moving some installed apps to the /system partition, how would I do this? Biggest apps were some games (about 15-30Mb each), but these were installed on the SD card. Removed 4 games and i've got an extra 5Mb back. Next biggest are things like Flash and Dolphin HD. Thanks. Yeah looks like it is, my bad. Haven't used Link2SD for a while. You can move App Data to the EXT partition with Titanium Backup. Long press on an app and select 'Move App Data to SD Card'. In Titanium order the apps by size so you can see what uses up the most data. Also, I found that moving some apps to the SD Card i.e. the Android_Secure folder can create more free space. Link2SD should minimise the internal memory usage without removing any functionality - but if it's leaving too much in internal then I guess fully moving some apps to the SD card would free some memory. In gerenal, anything that can be moved in Setting >Applications >Manage Applications (click on an app then see if the 'Move to SD button is greyed out or not) should be OK to move - however, I would take a note of which apps this applies to, and then move them though L2SD because you have them linked so the moving process is a little more complicated. This way just shows which apps the developers said could be moved - and a lot of developers don't bother, even if the app is fine to move. If you want to move more, as a general rule, don't move widgets, keyboards, apps that run in the background (think superuser, avast!, LBE etc.), launchers or themes for any of these apps. The advantage of linking rather than moving is that when the SD card is mounted to the PC, you don't lose the functionality of these apps - so lets see if we can sort out the problems usign L2SD before you move all of your apps over... To move apps to /system, long press an app in Ti Backup and press 'convert to system app'. Here's how to move app data to SD card in Ti Backup: (this is from someone from xda-developers, I haven't tried it yet but will give it a go now) Your second SD card partition must be mounted as /sd-ext, and the directory /sd-ext/app must exist. Once these are in place, titanium backup will detect the partition and it will give you the option to move app data to the sd card. This is a great feature for apps that create large databases in /data/data/[appname] that are not otherwise moved using either Froyo's built-in migration tool as well as link2sd, which moves the app & lib but not the app data. You still have low internal memory because the Data can't be moved/linked by Link2Sd (or App2Sd neither). You may try with Titanium Backup as suggested. Guest 00Mark Posted January 7, 2012 Report Share Posted January 7, 2012 I'd be interested in using Ti Backup to move app data myself: The wiki says this: Our Apps2SD scheme creates symbolic links (one per app) at /data/data/com.x.y that will point to somewhere within an ext2/3/4 partition on the SD card. The supported mount points for the ext2/3/4 partition are: /system/sd/ ("classic" sd-ext)/sd-ext/ ("Cyanogen" sd-ext)/data/sd/ ("MIUI" sd-ext) So for Data2SD to work, you'll need to ensure that your ext2/3/4 partition is mounted at one of these locations. Then create an "app" directory at that location in case it doesn't exist. Once it's done, you'll see a free space gauge for it in the Titanium Backup welcome screen, and you can then long-click on an app in the list and hit the "Move app data to SD" button. So will this not work with a FAT32 partition? And if so, what would be easiest:Converting the existing FAT32 partition #2 to an ext2 one?Creating a new small ext2 partition just for app data?How big is app data anyway? Hit the menu key and select all, then do a batch link. If you need more detailed instructions, find a recent thread called "Storage space and UI" and read my guide to rooting and using L2SD which I think is at the bottom of the second page. Guest matt` Posted January 8, 2012 Report Share Posted January 8, 2012 Doing that batch action made the applications unavailable. I decided to just reset and delete the SD. Taken a while but was worth it, reinstalled all the same apps I had before and now 102Mb/54% free so I'm happy with that. Hopefully won't have to bother doing any of this "internal memory low" stuff now! Thanks for all your help guys, will post again if I get any further problems.
