I was wondering what the majority of people have this set to? And what is your battery life like?
I'm not a heavy user of my phone and it can sit idle on my desk for hours on end during the day (away from home, so no Wi-Fi available). But it can still consume large amounts of battery.(more than i'd expect anyway)
I've spent a while using BetterBatteryStats etc looking for culprits and I can only put it down to Wi-Fi as other apps barely register. I though this because when looking in "BatteryMonitorWidget" graphs, I could see the mA usage whilst sleeping was quite high even when the phone was idle.
Ever since i'd got the phone i'd got 'Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep' set to "Always", but just last week I decided to changed to "Never" to see what effect it would have.
Well i've been stunned. My battery life has taken a massive jump and i'm getting far more out of it. And the mA graph in "BatteryMonitorWidget" now shows much lower levels whilst idle (25mA etc) as opposed to 70ish before I made the Wi-Fi setting change.
It does ask the question, what was happening with the radio/wi-fi even though I had no Wi-Fi to connect to when it was sat on my desk before I made the setting change? Was it constantly polling and eating battery? Radio problem? or by design?
My set-up is as follows.
3.0.8-franco-kernel-nightly #97
MoDaCo ir 11 (IMM30B) GSM
I9250XXKL1
Will be interested to hear other people's experiences.
The only downside I can see from this change is that whilst at home and the phone is sleeping, it uses mobile data rather than Wi-Fi. But its only a few Kb for mail and tweets etc in background, so i'm not too concerned about high data usage.
