Have you had any luck with adding search key and modding menu button to both sides and always on?

I got mixed results never got it perfect.

I've had a look but haven't properly attempted yet, making changes in systemui where Paul has for his galaxy nexus mods. I found the layout XML for the navigation bar and made changes there, pushed to my phone and got stuck in a boot loop. Haven't had time really though because I've been writing a website for my IT gcse.

it's the framework res apk, may have to place into an update zip or push back via adb.

Yes that is probably easiest way.Copy, the softkeys zip and rename to undo-softkeys,take original fameworkres.apk from rom on SD card and overwrite one in the renamed softkeys zip.Or do it with root explorer, move frameworkres.apk to system, change permissions, then move to frameworks and overwrite, reboot.Or even push with ADB as you have said.

Hex? If you're just changing the actual colour of the buttons *unpressed* then just edit the .png's :)
