Google selling Nexus devices on Google Play

It seems Google want to get back into the direct sell handset market again. Today they launched a 'Shop Devices' section on their US Google Play site. The Galaxy Nexus is the only device available of course, but we can expect to see the rumoured Nexus tablet on there in the coming months. Google dropped out of the direct sell market in 2010 after having various issues, from reports of poor customer service, to lack of support when issues arose. Let's hope they are better prepared this time round and have learned their lessons from their previous attempt.

The Galaxy Nexus they have listed is the GSM/HSPA+ version and it comes unlocked for a price of $399 (approx £247). It comes pre-installed with the Google Wallet app and Google are throwing in a $10 Google Wallet credit.

Andy Rubin, Google's Head of Mobile stated that other countries will be getting the Devices option on Google Play 'soon' which is good news for those of us outside the USA.

This version of the Galaxy Nexus is compatible with AOSP so you can create and distribute your own builds for the device.

Great price for a great device. Unfortunately we especially in the UK, have paid the price, for being early adapters. Although in truth and in real terms my phone cost me only £264.
