How do you fancy plugging in an ICS equipped, HDMI ported, HD video playing USB stick into your TV for only $74? That's the premise of the MK802, a new tiny computer device shipping out of China.

The device, which is shipping now from AliExpress (and will likely be available from all sorts of sources and eBay shortly) offers exactly this.

The MK802 packs the same internals we are seeing a lot of new generation budget Chinese tablets... a 1.5GHz Allwinner A10 processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB or storage and Android 4.0.

Connectivity includes the aforementioned HDMI port, a microSD slot, a full size USB port (for usb keys and the like) and a microUSB port. Internet connectivity comes courtesy of built in 802.11b/g WiFi.

At 8.8cm x 3.5cm x 1.2cm and only 0.2kg the MK802 is certainly pocketable and certainly has a lot of potential not just as a media playback device (support for Support the latest Flash and Full HD 1080P/2160P is claimed) but as a potential secure computing device with your own pocketable Chrome installation.

The proof of the pudding however as they say is in the eating of course, and it wouldn't be the first device from the far east to make big claims and not deliver... the key thing for me would be codec support (claimed audio support is AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, AMR-NB, AMR-WB, QCP, MP3, WMA, WAV, MIDI, M4A, and video in WMV/ASF/MP4/3GP/3G2M4V/AVI/MJPEG/RV10/DivX/VC-1/MPEG-2/MPEG-4/H.263/H.264/1280*720P HD 30 fps, 1080P/720*480 D1 30fps formats).

I have to say, tempted to buy... it's not just me is it? :)

Be interested to see how you control it. No bluetooth, so I assume you'd need that USB port to plug in a keyboard/mouse? Would it support a USB hub to allow a mouse and a USB stick? Someone (else!) needs to buy one and give it a review!

Not bad, I wonder if this streams from a NAS and if it would be used as a media player plugged into a TV. It's cheaper then most other media players so I wonder if it's possible to use 1 of these instead of buying a new TV that has smart TV features as I assume this would have smart TV features such as app downloads etc.
