Guest pelago Posted May 24, 2012 Report Share Posted May 24, 2012 Does anyone know (i.e. people who have been hacking ROMs etc.) if the backlight for the three capacitive buttons on the G300 can be independently controlled? That is, is there just one light for all three buttons, or three lights that can be independently turned on and off? I'm just wondering because it would be useful if the Menu button could be made to not light up when whatever app is currently running doesn't have a menu (I realise this would need app support). Many times I tap that button and nothing happens, and I'm not sure if that's because the app doesn't have a menu or because the tap wasn't registered. Guest BLaZiNgSPEED Posted May 25, 2012 Report Share Posted May 25, 2012 Yeah I just checked on mine, even if you decrease the back light the lighting on the individual capacitive buttons remain the same. But it doesn't really matter if you think about it. The light only stays on for a couple of seconds anyway. I also can't think of other phones giving you that option to control the lights individually. My gaming keyboard is designed in the same way. The lights are the same in all my keys although I have 3 options for dimmer, stronger and no lights at all. But I don't think we need it for the G300. Battery life is one big problem especially with android phones. Even the G300 despite having a reputation for a strong battery life. Even that drains under heavy use. The lights would further drain it. Well, my previous phone (Moto DEFY) had this feature, with CM7 it was even possible to set the brightness of the buttons. I think this doesn't have so much effect on battery life compared to the power consumption of the screen. I checked it, and after 3 seconds the soft buttons light turns off which I find really annoying. At least it should be possible to set a bigger value, for example 30 seconds. I does work, but it acts funny as well. Like the backlights will go off with the screen, but then flash intermittently (like once every couple of minutes) I thought I saw a flash from the phone, every now and then, when its was daylight, but I could never actually see it happen. Then, I put the phone on the nightstand before going to bed, and the flash woke me up. It was only then, that I saw what was going on. Strange... and I don't think it happens like regularly (like clockwork). But fair point its the best thing so far, until there's a fix/tweak for it. After a few days,I can use the buttons even in the dark,because its easy to remember where they are,so what need for the lights is there other than the slightly extra drain on battery. Thats my theory anyway :lol: May give root dim a try though,if it can dim the key lights really low then that would be the best of both worlds.
