Given those statistics and the feeling that they were 'spreading themselves too thinly' it arguably makes sense... but it's no doubt a bitter blow to Microsoft and Windows Phone fans as the platform desperately tries to grow in the face of formidable Android / iOS opposition.
The real kicker is in Runkeeper's view of the future though...
There are other good (maybe better!) fitness tracker applications on Windows Phone such as Endomondo (one of my personal favourites) but every departure from the ecosystem is unfortunate.
As Runkeeper themselves point out, for Android / iOS fans, Windows Phone / Symbian's loss is your gain as they can commit more resource to making the best possible experience for you!
