In France ,before February 2012 ,there're only 3 providers : Orange / Sfr (vodafone) / Bouygues
the price of mobile contract was per exemple 25£ = 1 or 2 hours + data 1go )
And in February come a new provider ,Free . This provider offer unlimited voice / sms /3g data for 17£ ( no error on price =) ) without contract
Since this day ,the 3 big providers lost a lot of their customers and they use a bad politic to block them with some strategy
You know why you "ll see some frenchies coming here to ask their unlock code and quit this provider ...

I had absolutely no knowledge it was like that in France, hopefully "Free" are the first of many for you. I've always thought we had too many but I wont complain again.

In France for unlock phone after 3 month it's FREE no need to pay , i have unlock 3 mobile Orange (Defy , Blackberry, Nokia ) and it's FREE . I would like to change my Motorola Defy for the Orange Intel but i would not like to have blocked phone, the law is clear in France after 3 months the operator is obliged to provide you free code desimlockage .

For 60 euros more you can have an unlocked nexus 4. It's your choice but buying a new orange intel inside at the time doesn't seems as smart that it was a fews months or Weeks ago.

But the Nexus 4 looks to be out of stock for the next 2 months, unless you fancy paying £400 of course.

Don't use the giffagaff unlock method. It doesn't work.

Does anyone here have experience getting unlock codes from MobiFreedom.net?
They claim to offer unlock codes for the OSD, £22, takes up to 10 days....

That's a bit expensive.. it's only £20 to get it unlocked direct from Orange after 3 months of being with them.

I know, but in a strange way their price is kind of reassuring. They know it costs £20 to unlock it at Orange, you pay £2 for the convenience of not having to wait for 3 months.

But how do they get it early? Orange wont give it to them and if they faff about for 3 months after getting your money it wouldn't surprise me in the least.

I think you're right, unless I hear from someone who has successfully unlocked using one of these services, i'll just wait out the 3 months then unlock with orange.

After using the phone for a day it looks like a keeper. As a recovering flashaholic, having a device that doesn't have 15 different custom ROM's making nightly releases should give me more time for other things!

"As a recovering flashaholic", lol.

I have not heard of a single person receiving an unlock code except via Orange, anyone advertising such a service is scamming.

I requested my unlocking code for my Orange San Diego on the 16th Nov 2012 and was advised it would take upto 30 days. I didn't receive any notification despite having a minimum of £30 in credit for the entire month so I gave them a call just now (to the iPhone section naturally enough ;( ). A very pleasant lady apologized and put £20.42 credit on my account (confirmed by my balance, not sure where the 42p comes from) and promised to process it for me. So I'm still waiting for the code but it wont cost me anything.
Not sure why it didn't work the first time but I'd only had the phone for 2 days short of 2 months at that time, however I have had the number on Orange for 2 years plus. She didn't notice this but perhaps someone else farther down the line did?

To be fair ayziaa posted that before the price drop, to clean the screen you're best using a lens cleaning cloth. If you insist on using the washing machine use a 30C wash cycle at the most and let it drip dry, don't spin (you'll mess up the gyroscope).
