Hi all,

Sorry if this is a bit of a noobs question, but I take it that it's still possible to change the launcher on the SD without root? Also I've seen that orange have seen fit to change the icons for some of the stock apps, is it possible to change these back, or would changing the launcher do this automatically? Sorry - still learning!

Thanks

Craig

launchers dont need root access so you are free to go get LauncherPro (also free) and then an ICS icon pack to get the ICS Icons etc

If you like the look of ics, I think you might like holo launcher, an ics based launcher for gingerbread.this has ics icons included. No (normal) launcher need root access. If there is one, its a high security risk :)

I have Holo Launcher and am using an icon set called ICS Plates that you can grab the zip file/free apk from XDA or buy the theme from the Play Store, which works on (almost) every launcher in existence. Darker Stance is nice set too.

Its nice to make the phone look like ics until Intel/ orange release ice cream sandwich for it.

i did this on my OMC when i was running GB. if you want it to look even more like ICS use widget locker they have an ICS lock screen just dont use go locker it is rubbish

Came across an Intel rep in an Orange store yesterday and his San Diego phone featured a (presumably Intel-branded) blue-based theme that looked rather attractive from the very quick glimpse I had of it, so there is an 'official' alternative to the default Orange theme apart from whatever Xolo, etc., might use on their phones.

Perhaps this theme might be available to download somewhere?

Holo launcher on this phone makes it an amazing piece of kit. Really not bothered about root at the moment it's great as it is with a few installed apps!

For anyone wondering about this phone...try it and you will be amazed.

Yeah picked it up today. Bit the bullet and pretty sure i can survive without root...for now at least! It's really nice, screen is miles better than G300, it's really quick. Camera is surprisingly nice at taking stills. It feels really light though! But i'll have a case on it eventually.

No not found any yet i don't expect to for a while yet either...i don't want to damage it but i can't go back to my G300 after using this. It's in a different class, anyone wondering if it's actually worth an extra £100 over the G300 i'd say it is by far.

Definitely feeling it. Not even played any games yet but it has made my G300 obsolete now, no more keyboard lag when typing, quick to open things, and everything just...looks better?!

Ok maybe I am not getting it today.

Went to orange to collect my OSD and got turned away yet again, :angry2: they say I have to have a driving licence or passport.(I have neither)After the first time,I called customer care who assured me I do not need photo ID to pick up my contract phone only the card the contract was ordered with and the comfirmation email.I went there today with those two things, and also took a bank statement showing the delivery charge for the ordered phone, and that was still not acceptable? So I then again phoned customer care, who then changed their story and said I do need photo ID WTF!!!

So now that OSD is being sent back, and another is being posted to my address on wednesday.

Really not impressed with orange, and really dont want a contract with them, but I really want the OSD and am a little strapped for cash and would have to save up for one,so this is really the only way I can get my hands on one. ;)

Well hope you have better luck on wednesday, I'd have told them to stick it where the Sun don't shine tbh. Definitely better options on contract anyway.

Yeah sure there are much better contracts, but not for £15 a month. And considering I don't make a lot of calls or send much text and use wifi all the time,I can manage with such a low price contract.

And a lot is being offered with this device, everyone who has used it sounds very impressed with it.Ok it is gingerbread and no root, but there is ics upgrade eventually, and root may come.Root does not bother me here really as I have my g300 to play with, and this will be my stable daily device.
