Will rooting + flashing affect SIM UNLOCK??

Hi people, I'm currently deciding on buying a g300, however one question is stopping it.

I had an iphone 3GS recently for a few months, and every time you flashed a new IOS version (or the one you used the most) I had to take steps to unlock the phone, again and again. I got fed up with apple's lockdown platform, and sold it on.

I have had android phones in the past, but only linked to one network, successfully rooted and flashed them without the SIM not being read or outright rejected.

I've got a bid on a g300, unlocked and after emailing the seller about rooting/flashing he stated that a shopping centre unlocked the phone for him and he thinks root/flash won't disable the unlock, based on his work with a motorola defy. He does NOT know what method they used though.

Now I'd really like to buy the phone, but not when my work with it will result in the SIM UNLOCK being scrapped and being basically unusable as a phone. All I want really is CM9 or atomic mod running to get the best out of the device.

Your advice on the matter would be really appreciated, thanks for reading. :)

Ok right, thank you so much for the info. I assume it's the same for all android phones right? That the unlocking stays permanent with respect to root/flash. I'm eyeing up a nexus s to buy too.

Can I just clarify that an unlock remains in place with a factory reset, the OTA update didn't fix my volume issue and thought I would start from scratch

As Dazzozo says "The unlock is permanent." factory Reset will not re-lock the phone to a carrier. My volume issues were fixed with OTA update to B885 but I also use an equaliser app to boost volume even further. Am currently using Modaco GR2 B888 based ROM.
